My Top Five Reasons for competing in The Global Scavenger Hunt

Why the Global Scavenger Hunt? I have been asked several times, why did I want to compete in a Global Scavenger Hunt???As we fly for the next seven hours to Uzbekistan, I thought it would be a good time to share! Here are my top five reasons for taking this amazing trip of a life time.

#1 - Legacy?– My parents Ed and Jean Wood were the absolute definition of global travelers. They traveled near and far in the 1970’s and 80’s before cell phones, internet, fax machines, and ATMs. My mom kept wonderful journals of everything she experienced, visited, and enjoyed. She stood all of 5’ 2” with red hair and always dressed impeccably anywhere she was in the world. My Dad traveled for his work in scientific optics and went to places that many Americans did not visit back in the day. I found their lifestyles exciting, exhilarating and inspiring.??

My parents inspired me to see the world and my intention has been to share that same passion and inspiration with my nieces and nephews, who never met or were too little to remember their amazing grandparents who left us way to soon over 30 years ago. My Mom always said, “it’s a big world out there, go see it, and know you can always come home.” I would say it’s a big world and life is short – enjoy your journey!??

#2 - Growth Mindset?– I have been preaching, teaching, and coaching the importance of having a growth mindset in today’s world. I believe one of our greatest opportunities to think differently, act differently, and be different. We live in a dynamic world and a growth mindset sees the opportunities and seizes the opportunities. Growth mindsets focus on being flexible, agile, and expansive. I felt like the Global Scavenger Hunt would let me test, expand, and explore my growth mindset too!?

Adenah Bayoh of Cornbread restaurants shared with me her philosophy of “it’s not happening to me; it’s happening for me.” This trip and everything that comes with it, is happening for me!

#3 - A New World View?– I have been blessed in my life to travel to many parts of the world. I have been fortunate to see the world before COVID and in some cases see parts of the world that may never be seen again. I have always been a life-long learner and curious about “Why”.??Why people make decisions, how they are wired, what motivates them, and how they adapt and respond.??

I am 100 percent curious to see how other countries were impacted by COVID. I know my experience from where I live and now, I want to see how the rest of the world navigated it. My experiences in Seoul, let me open my heart wider to the goodness and kindness of humanity.?

#4- Gratitude?– I am grateful to my amazing friend Margie McCartney, DMCP, CIS for texting me one day and asking me if I wanted to travel around the world with her. Margie did not know it was on my bucket list to make one continuous trip around the world. So, without knowing anything, I just texted back YES!??I am grateful for Margie asking me to team up with her!?

I am also so grateful for my family who have been cheering me on since I said yes! Everyone has been amazing sending messages, texts, and love as we continue our journey. I am grateful for each of every day and most assuredly now. I am grateful to Sue Tierno , Lindsey, and the entire Suzy's Swirl team for continuing to kick ass at Suzy’s and tracking our journey. I am grateful to Laine and Marla Topliff for keeping Kathleen Wood Partners moving forward over these next few weeks. I am grateful to all of my clients who have big things going on right now and are supporting my journey. I am grateful for my great friend Jamie Griffin who has been so gracious to be available to help anywhere it is needed.?

I am grateful for so many great friends in life and on social media sending messages as we go. I am also super grateful for my personal trainer, Marcus who all winter long met with me three-days a week at 5:30 am so we could do untold number of lunges together. It was brutal doing those damn lunges, however at our current pace of 25,000 steps a day I am amazingly grateful.?

However, I am most grateful to Bill and Pamela Chalmers who created, lead, educate, and curate these amazing experiences. I am grateful they selected awesome fellow travelers. I can’t even guess at what they do to make this all happen and they do it all with grace and a generous spirit. They give back in so many ways and impact the globe through their foundation. Please learn more about Bill, Pamela, and their global work here!

#5 – Intention- The Law of Manifestation

My final reason is the power the one vision Margie and I developed in January,?

Our vision is to win, keep our friendship, and have fun seeing everything we can in world!

I truly do believe life is short and we are meant to live it for all it’s worth and we are going to keep focused on being in it to win it!???

Let’s keep seeing the world together!
