My top 6 priorities for HR professionals

If you are an HR professional, you may find this article worth enough to share with someone who might find it helpful.

I have been working in the industry for almost 14 years and found some of the skills that are really helpful to flourish in the HR track. Among those, I am highlighting my top 6 below:

  1. Know the local laws and regulations ??: It's crucial for HR professionals to have a solid understanding of local labor laws, as well as company policies, to ensure compliance and avoid legal issues.

Example: Familiarize yourself with the Bangladesh Labor Law 2006 (https://www.ilo.org/dyn/natlex/docs/WEBTEXT/51555/65487/E96BGD01.htm) to stay informed about the rights and obligations of both employees and employers. Unless you want to spend your days explaining why they can't bring their pet elephant ?? to work.

2. Build strong relationships ??: HR is all about people, and having strong relationships with employees, managers, and other stakeholders will make your job easier and more fulfilling.

Example: Make an effort to understand the diverse backgrounds, needs, and perspectives of employees and managers, and communicate openly and transparently with them. Unless you want to spend your days mediating disputes between the office's resident cat lady ?? and the "no pets allowed" team.

3. Develop your communication skills ??: Being able to effectively communicate with employees, managers, and stakeholders is critical for success in HR.

Example: Practice active listening, writing clear and concise emails, and giving presentations to help improve your communication skills. Unless you want to be known as the HR professional who always sends out all-caps emails ??, complete with a million exclamation points!?? and inappropriate emojis ??.

4. Network with peers ??: Building a network of HR professionals can help you stay informed about best practices and stay connected with the HR community.

Example: Attend HR events and workshops, join HR-related LinkedIn groups, and connect with HR professionals in your area to expand your network. Because let's be honest, there's only so much one can learn from TikTok dance challenges ?? and cat videos ??.

5. Focus on continuous learning ??: HR is a constantly evolving field, so it's important to stay informed about new developments and trends.

Example: Read HR-related articles and books ??, attend training sessions ??, or pursue certifications such as the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP ??? to enhance your skills and knowledge. Unless you want to be left behind in the HR world, still sending faxes ?? and using floppy disks ??.

6. Be adaptable ??: The HR industry is rapidly changing, so it's important to be flexible and adapt to new challenges and opportunities.

Example: Embrace new technologies ?? and stay open to

different ways of doing things, and be willing to learn and try new approaches. Unless you want to be stuck using the same HR techniques from the 80s ??? and still hand-writing all your memos ??.

Remember, HR is all about people, so always have a positive attitude ?? and be open-minded ??. Happy HR-ing! ??
