My Top 5 tips for a successful hassle-free Virtual Interview

With the restrictions caused by the covid-19 pandemic, virtual interviews over zoom, teams, skype or google meets have become the norm for preliminary interviews with potential employers allowing you to not miss out on the face-to-face aspect of a job interview.?

However without actually being in the same room to allow your natural charisma to dazzle your future employer What's The Secret To A Winning Virtual Interview?

Here are my TOP 5 tips to help you ace your next virtual interview.?

?1. Test Your Tech

?Firstly, you need to test your setup well and truly before the interview. Having a stable internet connection is a must, so check your WiFi settings are in range where you wish to conduct your interview.?

Test Trial: If this is your first time joining a group interview, join the meeting early to ensure you can get into the meeting without any problems and set up for flawless experience.?

Platforms: Make sure you have the right platforms downloaded onto your computer/laptop and familiarise yourself with the system. Download the app on your phone as a backup plan.?

?2. Video interviews are just like regular interviews

Video interviews require the same preparation as face-to-face interviews. This includes researching the business, e.g. social media presence, business’ website and LinkedIn in advance. Establish what the position requires, to maximise your appeal as a job seeker for the advertised position. Organise your prepared notes, your CV, the job description and your questions to ask, so that you have prompts to refer to. Remember, practice practice practice because this makes perfect.?

?3. Be you.?

?I know its hard with technology in the way to come across authentic and natural but letting your personality shine through is so important. Show your interviewer your interpersonal skills and leave them thinking that's exactly what they need for the role.? Don’t sell yourself short!?

?4. Find a stress free area to conduct your video interview?

?Don’t forget this is still a formal meeting. Even though video interviews take place at your home with your cam, they’re still interviews. Find an uninterrupted location with a neutral video background that has good lighting. Switch your phone off, block out any outdoor noise and lock your door if need be. Kids and pets can be distracting and whilst its cute seeing your pets and kids maybe keep that for the second meeting

The way you dress for an interview tells potential employers a lot about you. Remember, first impressions last. So, dress to impress as you usually would for a face-to-face interview.
