My top 5 rules for selecting new clients and projects

My top 5 rules for selecting new clients and projects

This article was originally published by Rishabh Dev on www.rishabhdev.com

I work with clients across the globe while traveling the world. I make the most of the time and get the best value from it by being selective about whom I work for. Only a specific set of companies can hire me. Over the past years, I’ve created 5 key rules for myself which help me choose new projects and campaigns.

Today, I’m sharing these key rules with you so you can get the most from the work you do:

1. Can be done from anywhere

I’m a digital nomad and have a team that believes in hyper-productive remove output without distractions. I don’t take up clients who want regular in-person meetings.

2. Compensation should be more than just time-for-money

The project should compensate beyond an hourly rate or fixed retainer — should have an additional component in terms of revenue share or equity

3. Should create an impact

Whatever the industry of the project is, I should be helping them make a positive impact or in some way make their users’ lives better or fulfill their needs and requirements

4. Should be case study worthy

Before taking a project or campaign, I use past data and gut feeling to see if I can make it a successful case study. I only take it up if the answer is yes.

5. Should add value to everyone else working with me

When I work with freelancers or my teammates on a project, I want to make sure it makes all of them enough money. This keeps them happy and always ready to work with me again in the future.

I’m sharing these rules for anyone who is on a similar path and wants to filter their campaigns and projects to ensure the best work of their life. Just know that you’re free to create your own rules to make sure the work you do meets your lifestyle demands as well as creates an impact for others involved.

Life is short — be very selective about your employers and customers.

All the best!
