My Top 5 Finance & Business books
I was asked to write a short review of 5 finance books for a major publication. Here is is:
I’m an avid reader, especially around money and finances. Here are 5 great books I recommend out of more than 1,000 non-fiction ‘how-to’ books I’ve enjoyed:
1. The Compound Effect - Darren Hardy
A simple but powerful concept of how small things compound into big things and how to stay focused to receive the rewards. It’s harder at the start and easier at the end. This is applicable to business, finance and general life principles.
2. 80/20 principle - Richard Koch
A modernisation of Pareto’s law, who discovered that around 80% of the wealth was held by 20% of the people. Koch takes this principle to the 21st century explaining how 80/20 principle exists everywhere and how to use it for better time, finance and life management.
3. Naked finance - David Meckin
A book that takes all the complicated financial metrics and practices and simplifies them so anyone can learn and use them. Great if you are a numbers person but run a business and want to know how finances work.
4. The personal MBA - Josh Kaufman
One of the most comprehensive books on setting up and scaling up a business as an entrepreneur who doesn’t go down the MBA route. Many challenges you have growing your business are predicted and address in this book.
5. The Intelligent investor - Benjamin Graham
Famously Warren Buffett’s mentor, and often cited as the greatest investment advisor of the twentieth century. The go to book on ‘value investing’ and also referenced as the ‘stock market bible’.
Readers are leaders and those who don’t read have no advantage over those who can’t read
