Every year I publish a list of the top books I’ve read that year.
I’ve been keeping a public record of this on my Pinterest board for the past 9 years.
This year I wanted to do something different and instead share my all-time favourite books.
These books are more than just good reads - these books have shaped my life over the last decade plus. I owe a part of who I’ve become and what I believe to each one of these books.
So here they are, in no particular order, 33 in total.
I’d love to know if you’ve read any of them and what books have shaped your own life.
Purpose books
I believe we are all here by design with a God-given purpose. These books sparked a fire in me for my own purpose – who I was created to be and what I’m called to do in this world.
Money books
If you want to make an impact in the world, you’re going to need to learn how to create wealth. These books played a key role in my financial reprogramming and can help you with yours, if you need it.
Business books
You can do business like everyone else, or you can do business in a class of your own. These books are fundamental to my philosophy and approach to running my business.
Career books
Before transitioning to business full time in 2020, these books helped me navigate my Journalism / PR / Communications career. They helped me to see what was possible beyond the limitations I’d placed on myself.
Productivity books
Planning, organising, getting things done – these are my natural areas of strength, but even “strong” people need a little help from time to time. These books helped me learn how to get more done with more peace and less stress.

Inspirational books
Although some of the books in the other categories fit into this one too, these books specifically inspired me for many reasons, including being able to relate to the strong female leads.
Other books
These books are significant but don’t fit into one of the other main categories. The common thread would be that all – but the last one – have been character-defining books for me. That last one has spiritual significance. That’s a topic for another time.
So, there you have it - my whole life in print!
What are some of the books that have shaped your own life?

Given your opening statement about God-given purpose, I'm suprised you don't have The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. Also the best selling book of all time, the Bible, under Inspirational. But a good list to consider. Thanks for sharing.
Helping stressed-out doctors recreate balanced lives, and enjoy work without feeling like they are selling out.
2 年Fabulous list. I’ll have a proper peruse once I’m through the current pile by the bedside. This year I have loved and learned from The Joy of Being Selfish by Michelle Ellman. I am also a big fan of Get Rich Lucky Bitch by Denise Duffield Thomas.
MASH Social Worker
2 年I have read one, you recommended it. I need to add to my reading list.
