My top 3 winners of the Pandemic Economy
Recently, I came across a very interesting report on how only 15% of the companies are winning in the current low touch economy, from the Board of Innovation - a global business design and innovation strategy firm. They came up with the low touch economy concept soon after the pandemic paralyzed the global economy and mentioned that “it will define our lives for 1-2 years at least '' but many things (up 60%) will feel normal again - pretty soon.
Creativity flourished during this pandemic among opportunity-oriented entrepreneurs and this public list of 50+ examples of business model shifts proves it right. In this context, I decided to share my top 3 winners of the low touch economy.
My top 3 winners of the Low Touch Economy
1.Antler - a global early-stage VC that builds and invests in groundbreaking technology companies.
The Antler team responded very fast to the pandemic situation. First - they launched a call for startups tackling Covid-19, second - they consistently created educational content to support founders, and third - they continue recruiting for the next cohort even if there is no clear future on the social distancing regulations and that shows confidence in their fast ability to adapt.
2. London Real - a new generation media business with half a billion views and two million subscribers founded by ex-banker Brian Rose.
During the pandemic, Brain interviewed a conspiracy theorist and ended up being censored by several big platforms such as Youtube, Vimeo, and Linkedin. As a response, Brian Rose raised funds from his fans and built his own broadcasting platform called - Freedom Platform to defend the Digital Freedom of Speech.
3. BrewDog - a multinational brewery and pub chain with a genius marketing team.
Shortly after the lockdown was in place they started working on their BrewDog sanitizer and distributed it for free to NHS staff. At the end of March, they opened the internet doors for BrewDog Online Bar - beer - quiz - music - community, because “staying in is the new going out”. They offered NHS staff 50% off orders from their online shop and tested 8 different prototypes and concepts with their customers. Also, they launched the BrewDog Kickstart Collective to support independent bars, pubs, or bottle shops on the path to reopening.
