My Top 3 Bets for 2023 (as a Pakistani)

These three areas are what I think we should be paying attention to in the coming days and months.

• Artificial Intelligence
• Teaching / Coaching as a main line of business
• Redefining "foreign market"

Artificial Intelligence

Believe it or not, my first published article that I got paid for, was a cover story in Spider magazine and it was on Artificial Intelligence! This was back in - wait for it - back in 1999! So yes, a million years ago.

But I do believe AI has now come of age. My recent experiments with ChatGPT alone has me convinced that this will disrupt more industries than I can name right now.

For example, The ChatGPT experiment will further make it difficult to find so-called creative jobs. A friend of mine did not hire two copyrwriters because he is getting most of this titles and captions from ChatGPT-like AI-powered platforms.

The "end game" I think is something like: "Hey bot, start a billion rupee business for me". And then the bot

• first does the research,
• comes up with the idea,
• codes the app for you,
• then writes the Facebook ads for you,
• writes the landing pages copy for you,
• builds the website and ecommerce stores for you,
• and even makes sales calls for you, and
• then provide customer service for you.

All of the above can be done right now via AI with minimal or sometimes absolutely no human intervention. Think about this for a minute: all things mentioned above, you can tell ChatGPT and similar AI platforms to do for you, just like you would tell an employee or a team member.

Stringing such concepts together will only be a matter of time I think, and we may be seeing some really ground-breaking, non-intuitive work coming from this space.

Teaching / Coaching as a main line of business

In the past year, I have seen more revenue coming in from teaching and coaching not only for my own work, but also for my own circles and clients and friends.

In the coming years, teachers will become?crorepatis. There, I said it.

I think I may write a book on the subject and I will title it "crorepati ustaad" or something like that!

But the bottom line is this: if you have something to share with the world that they can find useful, you have a very high chance of making that into an online education product, and using technology to?take?it to a large number of people.

Two challenges I see with this:

1. It has been my experience that people who love to teach, don't know how to market themselves that well.
2. And many people who are "coaching" and "teaching" online, they know how to market themselves well, but are not that passionate about teaching and "solving problems" for their "students/clients".

If you can teach, you can learn marketing. And conversely, if you have seen good results with your marketing in general, you can learn how to create a useful course to sell online. Combining these two will be the defining factor here.

I am already doing test programs to take this to more people, especially people of Pakistan. I have written about this in the past, and have a video (in urdu) on how teachers can make a profitable career out of their passion.

Why is this "Teaching" business model so powerful?

I do think you should pay more attention to it, and see how you can incorporate that in your business. People who are selling solar installation services can increase their profits by adding this "teaching business" to their work. Gym owners, personal trainers, beauty parlor owners, home bakers, jewelry makers… they can more than double their business by adding a teaching component to their existing business. This has been done in many industries, it is something I have done myself, and have helped many friends/clients do.

Redefining Foreign Markets

UAE and Saudi are the new markets to explore, not Europe or even the States.

During my stay in Dubai (I was there for the 1Billion Summit in December 2022), I had some very insightful meetings with a few very well placed individuals. And they all told me that the biggest market right now, in terms of potential of growth, is the Saudi market. New jobs and new work opportunities in Saudi are definitely on the rise. Also, the Saudi government now allows the same legal ownership for businesses like Dubai does (Saudi previously had a strict "kafala system").

Dubai is again on the rise in terms of new money coming in, which is due to the Russia/Ukraine war, but also because of the European energy crises. A lot of money coming into Dubai as people are forced to find alternatives. So if you want to set up your online presence, so you can capture that part of the market, now is a good time to do that.
