My three words for 2022

Having subscribed to the excellent weekly Chris Brogan?emails, I recently read of his annual exercise of carefully picking three words to help choices and actions for the year ahead. ??It sounded like a helpful tool and Chris provides lots of examples (see My 3 Words for 2022 - CHRIS BROGAN ) so I thought I’d give it a go.?I have to say, this was more challenging that I originally thought.

My three words, are all “ing”, nouns, (aka gerunds) – Focussing, Connecting and Flourishing

Focussing

Having started my own business in April 2020 (to the naysayers on timing, I say anytime is a great time) I noticed that my early behaviours could be described as having a “scavenger-mentality”, i.e. a reluctance to say “No” and to a degree that continued in 2021.??As business flow has increased the capacity for confidence has also increased, but at times I still fight with declining work.?Why? - well it may be interesting, it may be emotionally stimulating, and it may be rewarding, but and this is where the discipline is increasing, it may not fit in with what really matters to me.

So, the focus is on the focus - the discipline and goals for 2022 (personal and professional).

Connecting

I am a big fan of ANDs - 2021 was a time of testing, of laying foundations and looking for opportunities to amplify.??Some of those aspects have been coming into sharper focus with clear connection points, yet I’m also confident that I have missed others, so this year is about identifying and making connections, be that people, ideas, things, opportunities, etc.

It's also about connecting in more meaningful ways to the people, things, places, activities and outcomes that matter.

Flourishing

A second business with a partner (more to come in this soon) was in a development stage last year, enhancing and testing a thesis , that has turned into a strategy, into some defined products and solutions, that made their way to a roadmap, to a backlog and have resulted in a first product that will launch in Q1 2022.?My partner and I have expended a lot of energy in getting this first product on and off the blocks.?We’ve had some challenges of thinking and implementation and so far, we’ve managed to overcome the hurdles (we both have high capacities for purpose and perseverance).?There will be more challenges ahead for sure, but this year a focus (that first word for 2022) is on amplifying this business.

Through a series of poor choices (I have to own this), I neglected self-care last year, and I mean more than the “COVID diet”, nothing desperate, but I need to take better care of what Dr Gail Wagnild calls “Resilience Supports”. So this year will have greater focus on those and the people that matter most (more connecting – that second word for 2022).

What are you three words for 2022?

What a great idea - very much lends itself to the laws of attraction in the book 'The Secret' - you attract back the signals you give out. I'm going to have to have a think about my three words - feels important in 2022 as I too have now set out on my own!
