My three takeaways from CONVERGE2019

How do you sum up an event like CONVERGE 2019? I’ve been to my fair share of technology conferences over the past 30 years, but this one was different. As a relative newcomer to the Tanium family, it was an invaluable opportunity to see the company from a different angle. Here are my three takeaways to help illuminate where we are right now:
1. Customers love us … and want even more
I knew that Tanium customers were passionate about the technology. But I didn’t quite realize just how strongly these feelings ran. The kind of engagement I saw was phenomenal: Fortune 100 executives talking at length about how Tanium works for them and where they want to see product roadmaps headed. These are people that only have the time to get to one or two tech conferences in a year. The fact that they always go to CONVERGE is a compelling statement.
Yet as much as they love what they’ve got, they want more. I witnessed many conversations that went along the lines of: “thanks for working with us to deliver on x, y, or z, but now focus your efforts on this critical business issue.†Discussions were spirited at times, but always engaging and productive.
2. We have a huge partnership opportunity
Tanium has historically driven engagement with organizations directly, using partners for fulfilment or to service. But lots of our sales partners say Tanium is a game-changer and they want it in their portfolio. Whether resellers want our product as a standalone or bundled with their own solutions, it doesn’t matter to us. It will add value for end customers and that’s what’s important.
We also have a huge opportunity to better integrate our products with adjacent platforms like ServiceNow and vertical apps in sectors like healthcare to improve outcomes for global organizations. And there’s a third dimension to this: an opportunity to increase revenues from places where we don’t even show up today. Service provider partners are keen to build out offerings using Tanium for the mid-market, which we’ve historically not played in.
3. Analysts are starting to “get†us
As Tanium is unique, we don’t fit into a neat box and that makes it hard for analysts to feature us in their latest Magic Quadrant, as analysts don’t know what to do with us. But then they came to CONVERGE and saw all this great feedback from highly engaged customers. The good news is that now they’re starting to understand that there are stories that need to be written about how we’re serving and transforming these global organizations. They’re really engaged with the narrative about how Tanium can help meet the needs of CIOs and CISOs, ops and security and bring these traditionally siloed parts of the business together to drive success for the whole enterprise.

Join us at CONVERGE2020
I appreciate your recap, especially # 3 - “Analysts are starting to get us.†Tanium is seen as very disruptive and transformative, therefore your technology and team will be viewed as pioneers. In due time, we anticipate your team leading the way in category creation, and Gartner is definitely leaning into Tanium’s view of operations and security coming together. #Gartner is excited to attend #CONVERGE2020 in Austin TX. Austin will be the perfect setting for Fazal Merchant to rock his cowboy boots again next year! :)
