My Thoughts Doing One Hour Weekly On YouTube

I've been on a mission in July 2024 - dedicating one hour every week to boosting my YouTube watch hours.

I made it into a vlogging style and it's been quite the journey.

So, here I am sharing some nuggets of wisdom I've picked up along the way.

? Consistency is king

I've learned that posting regularly is crucial, but it doesn't mean chaining yourself to your desk. Even a short, weekly video can work wonders for your watch time.

Other than posting my weekly YouTube hour on Shorts, I started consistently posting other short form videos as well - be it a repurpose from my long form videos or from Reels/TikTok.

The result?

This is the first time I am seeing double digits and more for my Shorts because in Singapore, Shorts is relatively quite new.

And 2 of my YouTube hour vlogs made it to the top Shorts in the last 28 days!

Yes, while Shorts might not directly contribute to watch hours, Shorts can drive traffic to your longer content.

It's all about that funnel!

? The power of playlists

Creating themed playlists has been a game-changer. Not only does it keep viewers watching longer, but it also helps showcase your content in a more organized way.

I arranged my playlists in accordance to my pillars on YouTube: Being 40s, Entrepreneurship (while caregiving), YouTube insights.

I also added my video tips & tutorials and tech reviews because these videos do gave me views and these 2 topics have always been my go-to topics everytime.

Aside to these, I have a playlist where I collaborate with other creators as well which brings me to the next point..

? Collaboration is not just a buzzword

Collaborating with other creators in your similar niche can expose you to new audiences and significantly boost your watch hours.

So if you ask me for collaboration? I'm in!

? Analytics are your friend, not your foe

I get it. Data is not everyone's cup of tea. I used to find the YouTube analytics dashboard intimidating.

But now, it becomes my weekly date to figure out what's working and what's not.

This way I can understand what type of content my audience is looking out for and I will make more of that type of content.

Remember, it's not about you. It's about how relatable you are to your audience.

In conclusion, this YouTube journey is a marathon, not a sprint.

It's about learning, growing, and connecting with your audience. Each week brings new insights, and I'm excited to keep sharing them with you when I found more insights just by my channel alone.
