My thoughts on being named as a finalist in the Global Equality and Diversity awards

I feel honoured to be named among so many inspiring people and organisations as a finalist in the 4th annual Global Equality and Diversity (GED) awards

The awards are for individuals and companies taking new approaches to equality and diversity in business.

I'm shortlisted for the Lord Noon Award for outstanding individual achievement in advancing equality and diversity, recognising my efforts campaigning for gender diversity in the transport industry.

There are so many wonderful people and organisations campaigning for improved gender balance in the transport sector. But there is much more work to do. Women make up less than a quarter of the UK transport workforce. So we need to continue highlighting the range of exciting careers in the industry. And we need to make it more attractive to young people, especially young women. I hope being shortlisted for the award will help highlight gender imbalance in the transport sector, and the industry's work to address this. I hope it will inspire people to take action and join us - either to campaign for change or to consider careers in transport.

The GED awards winners will be revealed at the Global Equality and Diversity conference on 30 November. Rt Hon Maria Miller MP, Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee, will announce the winners.

The Noon Centre for Equality and Diversity in Business at the University of East London hosts the GED awards.
