Very Personal Post: To MY Veterans
10 years ago I found myself working for a school and was told to go into the learning lab and make sure students are doing ok. How was I to know I was going to meet thousands of Veterans over the next 10 years that would keep me lifted, loved, protected, and educated. I do not even know how to find the words to explain how blessed and essential my military community has impacted my whole life.
I am a single mom of 3 sons. My work and my career are very much blended. If had an issue with my son I would take him to work and put him in a room with those who hear about my journey and struggles. You can not put a price on the advice a retired veteran gives to a son with no father. Moving to Killeen/ Fort Hood in 2012 changed everything for me and my family.
Today I drove my son to MEPS to start his Military journey. As I drove off, all I could think of is all the strong people I have in my life that punched me to be my best self. As I am still working on this… ?? I am so thankful for so many supporters and father, sister, brothers, and grandparents I have gained along the way. I have always tried to stay professional but working in a military environment makes things blended. It's all very personal as the word TRANSITIONING is constant and very real for all of us. How could I build trust without sharing the same fears, leaps, and challenges? I believe in people so hard and never in return would I have guessed so many of you would impact our lives.
I am so grateful to have stumbled into the Veterans community and now 10 years later I would not change any of the events that lead us here. I LOVE LOVE… Thank you for this day. A day I can feel like I did something right. Thank you to so many of you.
A family is a group of people who want as well as choose to be together embraced by a bond so powerful and strong that not even the slightest test of trials or troubles can breach.
Please take a moment and pray for OUR son Tyree Peterson as he starts his journey today into our Military.
