MY TERM PAPER: Quantum Physics, Consciousness and God

Preamble: Should I or Shouldn't I

Do I dare?

Do I dare post how I see the universe and risk what people will think of me??

How will they judge, assess, compare, and what will they conclude about me??

Fortunately, being willing to open yourself to other people's judgment becomes so much less of a consideration the older you get. You stop caring what other people think. Especially when you know your thinking, not theirs, which creates reality. To each their own.

My educational background has stayed steadfast from my late teens to today, culminating in my current insights. My curiosity and craving to learn basic science, physics, existentialism, and metaphysics have never stopped; they have only deepened over the years.

I believe I have come to comprehend something for and about myself that opened a deeper understanding of myself, consciousness, and God.

Consequently, I thought posting it for thoughtful consideration might impact how you think about yourself and the world. Of course, it might not. Ultimately, you are the decider of your reality.

Fortuitously, my understanding is not alone. Renowned physicists and philosophers have agreed with my view. Like me, they argue that consciousness is not just a human phenomenon but a fundamental aspect of the universe, potentially synonymous with God or a divine principle.

I suggest that what I'm sharing is worth considering if you're seeking to understand yourself and the universe; it may offer you a new perspective.

Introduction

I have been exploring the intersections of consciousness, quantum mechanics, and the concept of God off and on for many years, but intensively over the last three years.?

This time, the exploration opened a profound philosophical and scientific insight into the nature of my existence, my perception of self and the world, and the fundamental fabric of reality.

My inquiry has led me to consider the existence of God not as a distinct entity but as the very essence, the radiating source of consciousness itself. If asked, "What is God," I would now respond, "God is total and all-encompassing consciousness. Each of us is part of that consciousness."

But what is consciousness?

Consciousness is described as the subjective awareness of oneself and the environment. However, this description falls far short of fully distinguishing consciousness because it is an inherently subjective and individual experience.

By nature, descriptions attempt to capture and convey complex experiences or states of being using limited and often simplified language. Consciousness doesn’t lend itself to this kind of language, so it's no wonder consciousness has remained an elusive concept in philosophy, physics, and neuroscience.

Consciousness can't be scientifically established because it is formless and doesn't exist in time and space. Yet consciousness is the precursor of self-awareness, cognition, reasoning, planning, and imagination. Consciousness allows you to read and understand the words you’re reading now.

Consciousness enables your perception and experience to work through your senses beyond your thinking mind.

Consciousness allows reflection on your experiences and the ability to make decisions based on past events and future goals.

Consciousness provides the foundation for your emotional experience – joy, sorrow, and empathy.

Consciousness enables your ability to distinguish. This ability allows you to delineate, compare, clarify, adjust decision-making, and be creative in your life.

Consciousness opens the door to exploring spiritual and existential domains, seeking meaning, purpose, and understanding.

Consciousness transcends the limitations of physicality and delves into timeless realms where consciousness intertwines with quantum physics.

Consciousness is what defines you in every dimension. Without consciousness, there is no you and no world.

Consciousness allows your existence; you are the container in which consciousness exists.

Consciousness: A Phenomenon Beyond Definition

Trying to understand consciousness has been a long-standing exploration. Sir Isaac Newton began the inquiry 356 years ago when he proposed the first law of physics, the law of gravity. But this discovery immediately led him to ask the second question: “What’s causing the law of gravity?”

The physicists who followed Newton couldn't answer the question of consciousness either, and we are talking about some heavy hitters: Einstein, Bohr, Hawkins, Plank, and Heisenberg. All were lost for a scientific explanation of consciousness.

They all recognize that consciousness does not occur in time or space. There are no distances, no before or after, in consciousness. Since consciousness has no form, time, or distance, consciousness can't be measured. Consequently, the scientific method is useless.

Philosophers also struck out. Kant, Hume, Hegel, Nietzche, Kierkegaard, Wittgenstein were stumped. Although Ken Wilber, in his books "A Brief History of Everything" and "Integral Spirituality," gets to it.

But physicists, philosophers, and, of course, metaphysicists agreed that consciousness encompasses our thoughts, emotions, perceptions, and self-awareness, yet its exact nature defies description, characterization, classification, and meaning. It's like pointing to the moon, but it's not the moon.

Neuroscience attempted to understand consciousness by studying brain processes and neural connections. However, consciousness's "hard problem" persisted—how physical processes in the brain can give rise to subjective experiences couldn’t be explained.

When something is subjective, an individual's unique perspective shapes reality, thus varying from person to person. This means there is no fixed reality.

No one can deny that consciousness exists. Even thoughts, conversations, and opinions about consciousness wouldn't exist without it. Consciousness is the boundless arena where the self and the world come into being.

Quantum Theory: The Dance of Particles and Waves

Quantum theory revolutionized my understanding of the physical world at its most fundamental level. Quantum mechanics describes the behavior of particles and waves at ultra-microscopic scales, where traditional Newtonian physics breaks down.

The fundamental principles of quantum mechanics include wave-particle duality, the uncertainty principle, and quantum entanglement—phenomena that changed my intuitive notions of a fixed, “out there” reality.

One interpretation of quantum mechanics, championed by physicists, suggests that consciousness plays a crucial role in collapsing the wave function of electrons. In this process, probabilistic outcomes become definite measurables - waves become particles.

An electron exists equally in both forms: a particle and a wave. Until an observer is present, it exists as a probability. The observer determines whether it appears as a particle or a wave. Hence, consciousness determines existence. No observer, no existence, just probabilities.

This concept proposes a connection between the observer's consciousness and the physical manifestation of reality.

The observer determines whether an electron becomes a particle or a wave, proving a deeper interrelationship between consciousness and matter.

God as Consciousness: A Transcendent Perspective

I now believe that the concept of God transcends current religious and spiritual contexts. God, as I now understand it, is not confined to various doctrines' traditional roles or attributes. God is not a “something.”

My perspective implies that God's consciousness is the creative force behind the universe, the very essence that brings order, purpose, and intention to the universe. Yes, I said intention.

I believe the universe itself is imbued with this form of consciousness. This cosmic awareness underlies all phenomena, from the smallest atomic particle to the stars and planets in space.

This consciousness is not limited by time or space; it is the foundation of all that is and all that will be.

Since consciousness does not exist in time or space but is always required for manifestation, it totally shatters the "Big Bang" theory. Without consciousness, you couldn't have had a Big Bang occur.

My insight, individual consciousness, sense of self-awareness, and experiences are intrinsically linked to this greater cosmic consciousness. My consciousness is a reflection, a fragment of this consciousness.

Conclusion:

This is my perspective from where I now understand the universe, God, and myself.

Is it true?

Is it valid?

Does it matter if it is true? My consciousness creates my reality and determines what's true or not. When Gandhi said, “Only God knows the ultimate truth,” he got it right.

You see, I couldn't have these thoughts without consciousness, and you couldn't read these words without consciousness. And where consciousness comes from may not be in our heads but from a larger consciousness. Without a cosmic consciousness, my individual consciousness would not exist.
