Tip – If you want to “get out there” and be more visible, take a deep breath… and jump!
My TEDx talk on August 31st in Florence is in its final finessing stages. Whoa, I am digging deep to apply 25 years’ worth of experience and helping others to perform at the top of their game… to MYSELF (physician, heal thyself).
It’s a real challenge and my mantra of “take a deep breath... and jump” is easier said than done! I’m off to see a client today to help her host a panel tomorrow and I really know how she feels… arhhh yikes… what if I fail?
Getting help has changed my life. If you missed my ‘confidence wobble’ last week, see below for a re-cap!
Fancy a quick sneak preview?
The TEDx talk is inspired by my next book “Visibly Brilliant” (thank you Jacq Burns for your help and inspiration)
Its premise is the idea of transforming from Invisibly Brilliant (working hard at your job and not being recognised or rewarded for it!) to Visibly Brilliant!
“I’ve done a lot of research on this, and I’ve asked thousands of people why they aren’t as visibly brilliant and “out there” as they would like.
And the most common reason is…
The fear of turning into one of “THEM” - them over there. The blaggers, show-offs and people who?like the sound of their own voice. I call them “The Visibles” (the people who are visible but NOT necessarily brilliant)
I recently hosted an away day for a senior team of data analysts. They wanted help to be more visible and promote themselves better, so I asked them…
“So why aren't you more visible? What's the main reason for holding back?”
Their response?
I get it, you think you have to be like one of THEM, but the truth is…
You don’t.
You don’t have to be a social media influencer type with enormous eyelashes or a chiselled jaw to be visibly brilliant and celebrated for what you do, however, you do need to learn to celebrate your good bits; to maximise your assets and your talent.
How do you do that?
First – forget about THEM. The Visibles.

You don’t need to be…
(impression of The Visibles)
“Look at me, I have a very confident, well-educated sounding voice and I am considerably cleverer, and more successful than you”
Compare and despair – don’t compare yourself to THEM
Ignore THEM – you’re not like that – don’t compete, forget it.?
Focus on YOU.
Find YOUR voice, your style, your flavour. Do YOU. Get comfortable in your own skin.
GIVE YOURSELF permission to get on your own path. Because once you start being more visible there’ll be no stopping you.
When you celebrate your brilliance, you are more likely to be rewarded and recognised for what you do.?
You’ll no longer be the world’s best-kept secret.
And I’ve got some really good news for you, being visible isn’t selfish, it’s not about showing off or being someone you are not – it’s the opposite.?
All you need to do is this one thing….”
TO BE CONTINUED!
I’ve been helping some of the other TEDxOltrarno speakers with their content, structure, BIG IDEA and they LOVE it. I’m in my element helping them with their talks!?
If YOU need help with a speech, talk, pitch or presentation, that’s my sweet spot. It’s what I do. And I really do know how you feel.? I’d love to hear from you...
