My Ted Talk's Reach

My Ted Talk's Reach

I created and shared a Tedx talk last year. I shared it with everyone I knew. Made a list of entities I thought might have interest in the power of asking questions between generations and of folks interested in dialogue and healing in families and organizations. And it was watched but the magic of it going viral did not happen. That is ok, naturally. But I could not help but continue to muse on what I could do to share it more broadly. To help it find people whom it might influence positively. But how? Heck if I know!

I let it be. As sometimes breathe has power. I volunteered on the committee in my community TEDxWilsonPark #tedx #ted for this year's events and waited with baited breath for the amazing speakers ideas to roll into the world. Just yesterday theirs were published!

One of the speakers Codie G. #shared with me that MY talk was one of the charges that pushed him to do some work documenting his own beloved grandfather. And the amazing thing about that is that HIS work moved me! I am excited to see how he will continue to influence the world. He highlighted contributors, sometimes unsung heroes in the North Alabama landscape, often black, who's narratives were not illuminated fully. He opened my heart.

Reflecting on my own talk I googled my talk's progress and found a site that had shared it that I did not know about. https://babyhealthnews.com/baby-health/how-simply-asking-questions-can-heal-family-divides-shannon-milliman-tedxwilsonpark

Gratefully, I am continuing to percolate the powerful idea that asking questions and documenting what you learn and motivating others to do so is crucial for humanity to progress.

A step towards my imagination of how I can continue to share my message, I am participaing in #gbeta ##acceleratorprogram kicking off in Birmingham this week. Thanks Shelby Peranich for your leadership, so excited to get started! I am honing my idea worth spreading into writing profiles for medical patients that providers must read so they, quickly, can get to know patients more deeply and improve outcomes because of quicker, deeper connection. I can't wait to see what brainstorming and connections develop.
