My TED Talk On How Business Leaders Can Renew Democracy

Last month, my TED Talk was released “How business leaders can renew democracy. ” I hope it's a reminder of what’s at stake for American democracy and what we can learn from other nations where business leaders have sleepwalked into democracy's decline. It ends with case studies of Leadership Now members having an impact across the country, and a call to action to business leaders to protect our nation’s political system before it is too late.

Please consider sharing the talk to your professional networks, or reposting it on LinkedIn to encourage informed conversations about the role of business in safeguarding democracy in this critical year.

Daniella Ballou-Aares TED Talk, How business leaders can renew democracy (recorded Nov 2023)

Quotes include:

“Communism might be a distant memory, but authoritarianism is on the rise. And for those who build careers in business, assuming that rule of law and democratic capitalism would remain intact, we now have the obligation, the opportunity, the power to take action.”?

“What we need now are courageous leaders who understand that it is squarely in their self-interest to protect our elections and reform our institutions, to ensure that disinformation doesn't dominate politics and to play their role in protecting our system.”

“.. we have watched too many seasons of democracy's decline in the U.S. and around the world. And we need to work now, in urgency, together to save our democracy. And I'm more convinced than ever that business leaders have a role to play...”

Reflecting on the talk and where we are today, I continue to be inspired by the acts of leadership I observe in my networks that are collectively critical to protecting democracy. We need many more to join us.

86% of voters get some or all their news (voter information) online/mobile. We need an app for democracy.
