Do students think their teachers care if they do well or not?
Many times students communicate to us that they think a teacher doesn’t care whether or not they do poorly in the class. Have you ever heard a student say, “My teacher hates me” ?
As school administrators, we know that many times student/teacher relationships feel transactional. What do we mean by transactional?
- If a student does well academically, or behaves well they believe the teacher likes them.
- If the student behaves poorly, can’t say in their seat, talks out in class, can’t pay attention, the student believes that their teacher doesn’t like them.
What can I do to change this?
21st Century Students need more than just words to really feel we want them to succeed! How do we support teachers and students to understand that our desire is for them to do well not just academically but socially, emotionally, and psychologically as well?
