My Talent
Jonathan Dunnemann
Basketball is more than a game: It's a path to balance, excellence, and transcendent personal peace.
Have you seen my talent?
I don’t know where it's gone.
I used to believe that it was mine and mine alone.
Now, I can only stand here before you and gripe and groan.
After having laid it down for so very long, I probably won't even recognize it.
Only time will tell if it comes back to me like an old familiar song.
Maybe you once saw me share my talent with others at some point in the past.
Let me ask you now: Did you ever think I could make it last?
Too young and foolish to see its value.
And, regrettably, ever since that day, it’s been one hell of a ride for me.
When I stop and reflect upon all I've been given, I wonder why I wasn't far more driven.
In these advancing years of my life, I have a hunger that no food can satisfy and a thirst that no beverage can quench.
So, let me say this: when I find my talent again, I know I will eventually.
I intend to get off of the bench and climb to the top of the highest hill.
Then, once again, you will witness my long lost talent finally come through in a pinch.
