I had the pleasure to participate in an open webinar “Why Tricity is the best destination for your business,” organized by the joint efforts of Invest in Pomerania, Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) and Live more. Pomerania. It was a dynamic and productive event, and also a nice January afternoon in a pleasant company.
What it was about
The event was fully dedicated to the benefits and perspectives of Pomerania, Tricity in particular, for foreign investors and talent from neighboring countries. The event covered different aspects, including business and legal environment, employment, education and overall conditions for starting business and career in Pomerania and Poland in general.
Agenda and speakers
Organizers set up a compact but comprehensive agenda that covered such important questions as the specifics of the Polish business environment (presentation by Monika Grzelak from PAIH), incentives and supports provided to a new business in Tricity (presentations by Aleksandra Moszynska and Mikolaj Trunin from Invest in Pomerania) as well as employment opportunities for companies and specialists (by Nazeen Koonda from Live more. Pomerania).
Digiteum was one of the pioneers among Belarusian companies who have recently expanded to this region and enjoyed the newly provided programs. I had a chance to share my experience as an investor and entrepreneur and tell why we chose this location and what it took us to open a development office in Gdansk.
Key takeaways
Pomerania is a lucrative region for foreign investment, specifically from Belarus, for many reasons:
- Well-developed business environment and employment infrastructure.
- Fast-growing Polish economy and trust to Polish companies.
- Favorable geographical location that provides easy access to Western Europe and Nordic markets.
- Existing and emerging incentives and governmental supports for investors and specialists willing to relocate to this area.
- Similar cultural background and languages, high English proficiency in all urban areas.
- Rich talent pool and constantly increasing opportunities for employment and professional growth.
From our experience, opening a branch in Tricity is a relatively rapid, smooth and efficient process.
- It took about one month to register and open a company (with legal and accounting support). In general, it cost less than we expected given we have a virtual office in Gdansk, outsource accounting and have just started recruiting.
- We had incredible support from Invest in Pomerania and PAIH before we even started the process, which was a real life-changer. Almost immediately, we began building important connections and getting familiarised with the specifics of doing business in Poland.
- Many services like online recruiting and consulting on business and legal matters work fast and efficiently.
Final thoughts
I believe that events like this provide immense value to entrepreneurs and IT professionals looking for new opportunities in other markets and geographies.
I would like to thank the organizers and speakers of the webinar for such an insightful event and, personally, for the opportunity to share our experience.
By the way, the recorded streaming of the webinar is available on YouTube, so you are welcome to learn more if you find this topic interesting and is related to you.
