My take on LinkedIn and Life…

My take on LinkedIn and Life…

Newsletter No.1

Before I start, please open this on LinkedIn. After all, it’s a LinkedIn newsletter!

Welcome to my first LinkedIn Newsletter! Let’s do this!

You may be surprised that I haven’t launched a LinkedIn Newsletter before now.

I’ll tell that story sometime.

I decided that you don’t want to learn the dos and don’ts of LinkedIn…

What you might want to hear is MY TAKE on them.

After all, you can Google pretty much everything you want to know about LinkedIn.

(Yes, I do that quite often. Sometimes, my own content comes up in response! After twelve years of doing it, I can’t remember everything I’ve said and done!)

LinkedIn Search
People have told me that being consistent on LinkedIn pays dividends.

I have to agree.

But you don’t need to post excessively to be successful.

I’ll publish something often enough for you to enjoy what I write, but I promise NEVER to publish for the sake of it.

For the record, I wouldn’t say I like scheduling stuff. I like inspiration to lead me, and it has worked so far.

I will share some tips about how to find inspiration. Those are valuable.

I’ll no doubt touch on strategy, personal brand, engagement, and how to succeed on LinkedIn.

I count a ton of fantastic international LinkedIn trainers as friends. I learn from them every day, and on occasions, I’ll no doubt share their sage advice, too.

I’ll try to keep it short where I can. Bear with me if it gets a little longer from time to time. There’ll be a reason for it, I promise.

LinkedIn

So, what should I kick off with?

LinkedIn has made more significant changes to the platform in 2024 than ever before*. It can be overwhelming to try to keep up!

(*Follow Kevin D. Turner and Lynnaire Johnston if you want to keep up. They both do us a fantastic service in notifying us of the latest LinkedIn changes ????)

However. Relax.

The fundamental pillars of relationship building remain firm and strong. Know, Like & Trust. In my opinion, they never change.

“All things being equal, people do business with, and refer business to people they know, like and trust.”

I’ve long suffered being at the 'bleeding edge' of technology to learn that coming from behind like the tortoise often wins.

If Audio Rooms, Live Events, and heck, even Videos aren’t your thing, you are not limiting your ability to be successful here!

Find your niche. We all have them.

I hope I might help you to tease out yours.

Today’s Valuable Tip ?

Life

I figure you’d like to know my ‘Why’?

While I need to pay a few bills for the tens of thousands of hours I’ve spent here, my underlying passion is to help as many people as possible drive success from their time spent here.

??? I have made many people a lot of money

??? I’ve helped launch many companies here

??? I helped others carve out a new career

??? I’ve created thought leaders

??? I’ve helped some people find themselves

??? I have helped thousands of people to have that little bit more success by sharing what I know.

And all of this is truly a privilege. I’m one lucky guy. I love what I do. ??

So, if joining me on this journey sounds like your bag, hit subscribe. Better still, react and comment. That way, more people will get to see what I share. Thank you! ????

I can’t wait to share more on this LinkedInCredible journey.

#Today’s Short Tip

Did you know you can override the algorithm to ensure you get to see your favourite people’s content? ??

I always want to improve my LinkedIn feed.

One way to do this is to click the bell of the people whose content you enjoy.

How?

Manage notifications
Manage notifications by clicking the bell on a person's profile

Once you are connected or follow a LinkedIn member, you can visit their profile page to ensure you always get to see their content.

?? I sometimes do this with important new connections to ensure I can stay engaged with them early on by commenting or reacting to their posts.

Choose the option that works best for you.

#Pro Tip ?

Keep a list of those people whose bells you activate. You might want to tidy it up from time to time.

#Someone to Follow

In each newsletter, I will promote someone whom I think you need to follow.

This week, it is Bruce Johnston

I have been connected with Bruce since 2016, and I love his down-to-earth, practical LinkedIn advice. I find myself so often agreeing with his thoughts about LinkedIn. He publishes a regular Newsletter himself called ‘Using LinkedIn Effectively’. With over 27k subscribers, it is truly valuable.

That’s it for now, see you soon, folks!
