My Take on Black Friday Sales

My Take on Black Friday Sales

There are traditional values here that we can resurface together…

The season of Black Friday sales is in full swing, and as a business owner, I’ve taken some extra time this year to reflect on how I view this phenomenon as a business coach and conscious entrepreneur.

Honestly, I’ve never been big on Black Friday sales and I’ve chalked it up as crass consumerism (apologies in advance to my dear marketing colleagues reading this!)?

It’s always struck me as a distraction from the deeper values that the holidays were intended to represent.?

But after taking some deeper thought, I’m willing to look at it from another angle now.

I realized Black Friday is NOT about me…

It’s about the people I am dedicated to serving in my audience.*?

I’ve also come to recognize that just as the earth and human body have seasonal rhythms, so too do the economy and society run on seasonal rhythms.

Many businesses offer sales for the holidays in hopes of meeting their annual financial goals as the year comes to a close.? And consumers take advantage of these sales to provide gifts for loved ones, or perhaps enrich their lives in other ways.?

Businesses lower their prices, and people open their wallets.

Certainly, we as multi-dimensional human beings are much more than our economic behaviors, and there's an unsettledness in me that stirs when I make statements like that.

There's a risk of losing our humanity when we reduce members of our society to their spending habits.

But this is an economic reality that affects almost all of us, and I’ve realized that I don’t necessarily have to frown on it (after all, I’m sometimes a willing participant if I find something I need at a great discount).

I sometimes imagine what my Mennonite or Native American ancestors may have thought if they were to see how we live today…perhaps I’ve somehow inherited a bit of their sentiment.

But I’m also willing to integrate other lenses to practically navigate in the modern world, which I find especially necessary as a small business owner.

In previous centuries, the entry into the winter season has traditionally been a time to…

  • Celebrate gratitude for a successful harvest
  • Bond as a community to collectively pull together through the colder months
  • Reflect and plan for the coming growing season??

These traditions essentially formed an intelligent collective survival strategy for our ancestors.

Nowadays, we live in a highly commercialized society, but perhaps there’s a faint memory of these traditional ways that we can carry forward into how we navigate the modern business world.

So I’ve decided to participate this year, but in a way that reflects the values I hold in my business, and perhaps it will serve as a small nod to the spirit that originally inspired these seasonal rhythms and customs.

And in that sentiment...

I would like to make an offer in the spirit of generosity and mutual prosperity.

For the next few weeks (November 24 - December 8), I’m excited to offer you an exclusive scholarship opportunity on my flagship coaching program, Business & Lifestyle Design Mastery (a 20% break from the original price, which amounts to $1,440 off) and also for ongoing bookkeeping services ($500 off for that one).

Consider this offering a sharing of my harvest with our professional community.

Business has been good to me in the past year, and I thank all of you who have been part of my business’ growth (...even if it’s just by popping open my emails as an affirmation that I’m on the right track).

May we all grow and prosper together into 2025.

A Final Word

My firm will only onboard 2 new clients per month.? I had one person who was already at my doorstep just sign a contract with this scholarship, and I have one more contract on the table waiting in line.? I will stagger out the start dates into December and January for anyone who is willing to secure their spot with a downpayment for the first month.?

First come, first served.?

If you have any questions, let me know.
