My Sustainability and Climate Business Journey: Updates on Q2 2024
Throughout the last quarter, besides meeting amazing people and industry leaders from diverse backgrounds, I've been kept busy on multiple fronts. The end of June marked the sixth month of my journey in the sustainability and climate business. I previously shared a post about how it all started and what my initial steps were.
Reflecting on the past few months, I took a stroll down memory lane, revisiting my notes, scribbles, and photos to uncover the significant episodes and unique moments that stood out between April and June.
Here we go:
Impact X Summit
In late April, I attended Impact X in Sydney, a truly inspiring and energising conference that gathered passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds. The thought-provoking discussions and innovative ideas left a lasting impression on me.
One crucial takeaway was the emphasis on social equity in our sustainability efforts. The conference emphasised the importance of diverse strategies and inclusive solutions in tackling climate change, advocating for a multi-solution approach.
Graduating from Terra.do’s Learning for Action Course
At the end of May, I completed Terra.do’s 3-month intensive program covering climate science, climate impacts, solutions, economics, policy, energy transition, food sustainability, carbon reduction, finance, corporate initiatives, and resilience strategies.
There were times when I questioned the decision to study on top of my MBA and work commitments - as it was… well… quite intensive, to say the least...
However, despite the challenges of juggling multiple tasks and assignment deadlines, it turned out to be one of the best decisions. The international cohort, primarily from the US and Australia, was fantastic. The program also has provided access to an excellent alumni platform with people dedicated to addressing climate change and its implications.

Splitting Up To Double Down
We have been working on deploying renewable energy technologies in Southeast Asian countries with ambitious targets and plans. While we still value this mission, we realised the economic viability was challenging. Consequently, we decided to split our company into two entities: a non-profit and a for-profit.
The non-profit organisation will continue our work in renewable energy, addressing the challenge that running such activities on a profit basis was not sustainable at our scale. It allows us to focus on social good without the pressure of economic returns, making it easier to secure funding and collaborate with communities and partners.
Simultaneously, we are creating a for-profit entity focused on consulting and advocating sustainable business practices while helping with execution for SMEs. This new venture leverages our experience and partnership synergies, aiming to provide pragmatic and profitable sustainability and business solutions. More details will come soon; it’s an exciting phase as we validate our phase 1 business model and value proposition with our first prospects and clients.
Feel free to drop me a message if you'd like to hear more about it.
+1 More Thing Moving Forward
As a closing remark, I believe everything happens at the right time and in the right way, and eventually, everything falls into place, particularly when you put in the work and effort - this last quarter is a perfect example of that.
I can't wait to see what the next three months will bring. I/We will keep moving (crawling) forward.
Thank you for taking the effort and reading my brief article. I appreciate your engagement, and I welcome any constructive feedback you may have. Feel free to reach out with any thoughts, questions or suggestions! Cheers, Alex
