My best (book) ideas pop up at the most random moments.
You, too? I thought so.
They come to me in the shower, while I'm driving, on the treadmill (or worse, in the middle of a set of lunges), and (of course) right as I'm drifting off to sleep.
Mildly inconvenient sometimes, wildly inconvenient in others.
Here's my simple tip for capturing your ideas when they hit:
Keep sticky notes everywhere. And I mean everywhere.
Your desk? Sticky notes. Your nightstand? Sticky notes. Your car? You guessed it... sticky notes.
Why? Because brilliant content ideas are like butterflies--they're beautiful and they disappear fast. (And if you're anything like me, you won't remember them later, when you're more prepared...)
When inspiration strikes, you need to capture it immediately, not "when you get back to your computer."
Last month, I found a crumpled sticky note in my jacket pocket with three words I had completely forgotten, and they had sparked what became one of my most-read emails ever.
You might not always have a sticky note with you except that you do! I was thrilled to discover Post-It has an app! Now, even when paper, pen, and stickys elude me, I have my phone handy with a virtual sticky note. #FTW!
This cracked me up--when I went to Amazon to look at Post-It Note options, they have the "Energy Boost Collection." ??
Now if you'll excuse me, I just had a thought that's begging to become one of next week's newsletter...***pulls out sticky notes***
See you tomorrow!

P.S. Where's the weirdest place you keep sticky notes? Reply and let me know – I'm always looking for new spots! ??
Sometimes there is no replacement for good ole pen & paper... or pen & napkin... or... just get the idea out of head and onto surface! :)
