MY SUNDAY TONIC WE CAN LEARN FROM

There is something special with this picture. I took it in 1993 at Finance Department of defunct Commercial Bank of Africa Ltd, Head Quarters Branch Oshopey Plaza Allen Avenue, Ikeja Lagos. I was in Finance Department at the time. In 1993, I paid for a house in Festac Town, Lagos ie A Flat in a Block of Flats for N35,000 and It eventually turned out that I paid the money to 419 people. The person that posed as a  Landlord was not actually the landlord. The money was paid to him near our office without using a lawyer to conduct a search for the actual owner of the property. The case was reported to the DPO at Festac police station where I wrote  a statement. The police started investigation and eventually arrested the purported landlord and some of the members of the group but they could not find the main actor who was my barber at the time and who collected the major chunk of the money. We learnt eventually that as he collected his own money he travelled to Kanu. The police recovered N10,000 in the first instance and this money was registered as an exhibit. As  we were moving from one place to another trying to recover additional money I continued to entertain them by giving them drinks and goat head meat. A lot of money was expended during this process. I got tired at a time and decided to leave the case. I can not say exactly the total amount that was recovered but it was not up to N15,000.What I got in total was N 12,000 and as I was leaving the police post I took a decision of going to CMS to buy a suit with the money. That was house the suit I was  wearing in this picture came about. This taught me a big lesson in life of never trust people even your closest friend . It made me not to have anything to do with police. Even in very critical situation that demands sympathy police will still be collecting money from you. If you must pay for a house or land try to investigate about the true owner. Use a lawyer to carry out a search for you before money changes hand..
