My Sunbelt Rentals story - Regan Malcolm, Senior Hire Controller

We’re bringing you a series of stories about our amazing team at Sunbelt Rentals - the team behind the team and first up is Regan Malcolm, who joined Sunbelt Rentals in 2017.After leaving college Regan wasn’t sure of what path to take.

She researched different opportunities in the North East and decided to apply for one of our Customer Service apprenticeships. This was her ‘sliding doors’ moment as she has built an exciting and varied career here over the last seven years.

Catching the Sunbelt Rentals bug!

I didn’t really know what to expect when I started my apprenticeship and I wasn’t even sure that I was going to like it, but I immediately caught the Sunbelt Rentals bug and became totally immersed in the company.

Helping our customers find what they need and working in such a fast paced and energetic environment was exactly what I didn’t know I had been looking for.

After completing my apprenticeship, I moved into a Hire Controller role. When the company transitioned from A-plant to Sunbelt Rentals I had the option of a few different positions. I was offered a role as a Transport Planner and quickly worked my way to Regional Transport Manager. From there I became a Customer Service Manager before moving to the Newcastle Depot as Senior Hire Controller, where I have been for the last year.

With so many great opportunities here, I have had a varied career path over the last seven years and it has all led to me doing a job I love as a Senior Hire Controller.

Supporting our customers

Finding solutions to problems gives me a real buzz and I make it my personal mission to ensure our customers are happy. For instance, if a customer is having issues with a machine I will go and find the same machine at the depot so I can visualise what they are seeing and talk it through with them.

Feeling valued and proudest moment

I really believe that Sunbelt Rentals is a company that makes you feel valued and there is a lot of support to help you carve out a career based on what you enjoy and excel in. I have been working with many of the same teammates throughout my career and they have become lifelong friends.

I’ve experienced a lot of proud moments but the two that brought the most pride were winning a Sunbelt Rentals Apprentice Award and then returning a few years later with Maria Jade-Wilson, an apprentice I had mentored, to see her receive an award too!

I know it is a cliché but we really are like one big family here at the Newcastle depot, which makes coming to work an absolute pleasure.
