My Summer Internship at Mercer

My Summer Internship at Mercer

As my time at 美世 concludes next Friday, I want to reflect on this fantastic opportunity as a Health Consulting Intern. It truly has been a summer to remember, and it is hard to believe that it has to end.?I am so thankful for this opportunity.

And to everyone at Mercer Dallas, I cannot thank you enough for such a valuable and enjoyable internship! Thanks to my People Manager, Eleni Konidaris , and my buddy, Jessica Ackerman , and Natalee Johnson, MSHRM , for your continuous support this summer.

I am fortunate to have found an office with positive company culture. The Mercer colleagues at the Dallas office honestly make it a fantastic place to work. I immediately felt so welcomed and supported when my time at Mercer began. I would also like to express my gratitude to the office’s leadership. It is so rare to be led by such genuine and selfless leaders. I appreciate that they took the time to have meaningful conversations and presence with the interns. Thank you,? Larry Chim , for your time and dedication; you make the Dallas Health Office a wonderful place!

During this summer, I was assigned to several client teams. Within these teams, I participated in weekly meetings, interacted with colleagues, clients, and vendors, and assisted in completing deliverables. Because of my assigned client teams, I developed a much deeper understanding of health plans and client needs. Actively collaborating on these teams enabled me to learn directly from several of Mercer’s wonderful colleagues.

Throughout this summer, I was able to complete many tasks and assignments. I worked on deliverables, including PowerPoint slides within marketing, plan renewal, benchmarking, strategy decks, Excel tasks, and populating plan data into some of Mercer’s active databases. The primary task I would like to spotlight was completing Mercer’s National Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans, one of Mercer’s most well-known offerings. I populated data into the survey for ten clients. Completing the survey is very tedious, as it requires thorough navigation through complex files and data. However, I firmly believe that the survey is a great learning tool for someone new to the industry. I learned so much from completing these surveys, as I discovered the many facets of health and benefits plans offered by employers. Further, it was an excellent opportunity to engage with clients outside of my assigned teams, as I could see how the plans varied across industries and sizes of companies.?

I am so grateful for this opportunity, for which I have learned and developed so much. My role incorporated my interests and my majors, Healthcare Management and Human Resource Management. I have learned so much in such a short time and would like to thank UT Dallas for preparing me for my professional future.?
