My Summer Internship
During this summer I was able to do an internship with my friend and mentor Eric Aaberg at TGR Creative. During this internship, I was able to work on a lot of different aspects of marketing and business administration learning the inner workings of a growing marketing agency. I am so grateful for this experience and the lessons I have learned this summer and would love to share some of the lessons and experiences I had.?
One of the first lessons I learned from my experience with TGR Creative this summer was the importance of clear communication. Whether it is between the agency and its clients or internal communications, being clear and exact in your language is extremely important. During my time at TGR Creative, there were times that I had to clarify the vision clients had for their marketing strategies and material as well as revise already completed works due to miscommunication. Poor communication can lead to many issues from missing deadlines to exceeding budget and causing a project to be scrapped altogether. It is important that I learned this lesson while in this stage of my career that I am in so that I can avoid this kind of mistake as I go on to handle larger projects.?
Speaking of handling larger projects, during my time at TGR Creative this summer I was able to work on projects with varying sizes. This helped me learn that all projects need to be treated with the same level of care and attention no matter their size. There were times while working at TGR Creative that we would be working on projects of different sizes simultaneously. This led to me seeing the larger project as my only priority and caused me to let the smaller tasks slip my mind. Because of this, the final product had to be rushed to meet the deadline and ended up being a product that I was not proud of. This not only had the potential to ruin a project but also led to me personally not liking the work that I had put out and soured my mood even when the larger project was completed. It is important to remember all of the projects you have going on to give the same level of detail to all of them. This is both for the sake of the client and also for your own sake because your work represents you.?
In the end, this summer internship has been a great experience and I can not wait to see what opportunities await me in the future. I will remember the lessons I have learned this summer and make sure to keep them in my mind moving forward.
