My Summer Internship at ITCON

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at ITCON, an information technology company that is constantly finding creative ways to implement the most modern and innovative solutions. I traveled from Coppell, Texas, to Tysons, Virginia, and spent the past two months learning an abundance of skills that I will exercise within future roles. I would like to present some key takeaways that I have learned from this fantastic opportunity.

Technical Skills?

During my internship, I exercised some skills that I had learned previously for projects, as well as learned new programs that related to the tasks I had been given. I used my expertise in Microsoft programs as well as SQL coding to overcome tasks and projects that I had been assigned. I also learned some new skills that became valuable to me during this internship, including Python and Power BI, which directly relate to data analytics and analysis.

Projects & Tasks

Some of the projects and tasks that I have worked on and completed during this internship include data analysis and tracking of equipment returned by former employees. I created a database for all information about the users and their assigned equipment, as well as ran analytics over it weekly and analyzed the quantity of equipment returned. Through analyzing this, Our IT team and I were able to reach out to these individuals at a high volume. As I worked on this, I achieved great results as week by week more equipment returns were being sent back to us.?

Another major task I worked on was compiling data for a large number of employees. This data collection effort was to enable the HR department to review and access the personal employee data that will be used during the fall of 2024 for government contract bids and negotiations. I created databases and identified missing elements, which were then rectified to comply with company policies.?

Events and Meetings

I was part of many recurring meetings with departments that led the projects I was assigned to. During these meetings, I would walk them through the analyzed data, ask any relevant questions, and provide a status update on my progress.? While ITCON hosts a lot of events for employees, one major takeaway that I got was from the All-Hands-On-Deck meeting, which was a bi-yearly meeting where the entire company joined together to listen to many different directors and operating officers for a few hours. They report their department's achievements and focus on future plans, as well as highlight employees who went above and beyond. I learned a lot through this meeting about how different functional areas of the business come together (like HR, IT, Finance, Product etc.) to achieve a common goal. This was an eye-opening experience.?

Connections and Guidance

This opportunity would not be as valuable without the support of a great group of managers. The guidance I have received through this internship was nothing short of extraordinary. A special thank you to the entire HR team, the IT team, and Praveen Mukkamala for guiding me through this internship and always making me feel at home during this venture.?

Takeaways and Experience

I originally came to Virginia nervous as this was my first time in the state and having a true internship. Slowly, it faded as each day in the office was a new day for insight and an opportunity to learn new skills and accomplish tasks. Everyone was welcoming, kind, and patient as I learned my way around the office and projects. I am extremely thankful for ITCON investing in my skills and allowing me to grow. Some key takeaways I have are seeking feedback, being versatile around multiple different projects, and consistently refining one’s skillset.

Overall, I am extremely grateful and proud of conquering this opportunity at ITCON!
