My Summer Holiday Income Statement

My Summer Holiday Income Statement

Most people probably don’t evaluate life like this, but being an accountant, I often analyze situations in financial terms.

An income statement looks at a period of time, reporting on income earned and expenses incurred for that period of time to determine whether you made a profit or a loss.

With summer in the northern hemisphere upon us, I decided to share this 'summer holiday income statement' I prepared after my last summer holiday.

It was possible to put numbers next to some of the expenses I incurred but impossible to put numbers next to the income items.

My Summer Holiday Income Statement:

Income

--------------------------------------------------------

Time: - With Family

- To reconnect with myself and others

- To reflect on the past year

- To bond with my children

- To switch off from social media and email

- To rejuvenate from the grind

- To recharge and refocus

- To energize and get the creative juices flowing again

- To breathe fresh air and clear the mind

- To have new experiences and try new things

- To relax

Expenses

--------------------------------------------------------

-Monetary costs:

- AirBnB with space for the whole family and a garden for the kids

- Fuel to get to our seaside destination

- Good food

- Good Wine

- Good chocolate ice cream

Mental costs:

- Long drive kiddy tantrums (still recovering from these)

----------------------------------------------------------------

PROFIT = ABUNDANCE OF HAPPINESS ??

? ---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm hope you've booked off some time to recharge and reflect in the coming months. I know my time off gives me the impetus and mental resolve to focus back on my company income statement with renewed vigor and help even more non-finance staff remove their fear of finance.

Wishing you an incredible summer.

Mark

Those expenses sound like assets to me, or at least missing the recognition of Goodwill (quality time with family and memories ??)
