My Summer '23 Internship experience at Ravi's Import Warehouse.

This summer, I got the opportunity to work as a Purchasing Assistant Intern at Ravi's Import Warehouse which is one of the largest wholesale suppliers of independently owned convenience stores in the USA. With a customer base spread across the country and dealing with a high number of SKUs, I got the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment exposing myself to various aspects of the Supply Chain in the retail industry.

During my association, I got the opportunity to work and understand how important various aspects of the supply chain like Purchasing, Receiving, Inventory control, quality control, marketing, and pricing impact and drive the overall bottom line of any organization.

At a time when the company was facing issues with its actual vs system inventory levels, I planned and implemented cycle counts in the most efficient manner without affecting the regular operations and customer satisfaction at the store. This required the proper renaming of all warehouse locations by designing a nomenclature that is suitable and convenient to analyze sales and inventory levels. Also, worked on a plan to tag various SKUs to a physical location. ?

I was also involved in designing a pricing strategy for the wholesale segment of the business which required factoring in discount percentages for various volume levels and ensuring minimum profit margins are met. This also gave me an opportunity to engage with the sale department and understand how slight changes in wholesale prices have a significant impact on profit margins. Implementing these price levels required developing an Invoice tracking and grading scale for which I worked on and successfully implemented the same.

Overall, the internship was a sneak peek into the retail industry, and I understood how fast and dynamic the industry moves. I want to thank my manager Amish Bhatia for patiently guiding me throughout the summer and helping me enhance my skillset.
