My Suessical Take on Conflict Resolution
What causes a quarrel? What causes a fight?
It isn’t my fault – I know that I’m right!
I know that you’re wrong – and you’re now in the path
Of my wants and desires and unbridled wrath
My motives are pure – just ask me – I’ll say!
My heart won’t mislead me or take me astray!
You think you’re right also? Well, that’s just untrue
Your heart is unfortunately misleading to you
But I’ll hear you out, even though I still know
How this story will end, when you finally let go
Of your unrighteous pride that is causing this fight
When you know that you’re wrong and you know that I’m right!
But as I listen, there’s someone that speaks in my mind
That reminds me my heart can be jealous and blind
And I realize the truth may be not what I thought
When I focus on hearing your side as I ought
What calms down a quarrel? How can we agree?
When I realize my own heart may be misleading me
and if you can be open to thinking the same
We can each seek the truth and stop playing this game.
