MY STORY PART I Contd. (Family background)

I was born in Rampur, U.P. in Zamindars family (Grandfather) having 100,s of acres of Land in Shahbad, Bareilly. My Grandfather was a farmer cum Landlord and as told by my father that my grandmother was very spiritual as also my mother. My grandmother told our family to take her to Mansa Devi Temple and Har ki Pauri, Haridwar where she gave her life and left for her heavenly abode.

We bought in auction the House of then Kazi (Famous Agha Khan) now called as Kazi ki Gali with 22 rooms along with administration and servants quarters and all amenities with Parry ware and Sagawan /sheesham sofas etc. It was sold in the 1980's as the part of our family migrated slowly to Delhi or USA, with a few cousins still in Moradabad and Rampur.

My father Late Prof S P Dubey was topper of Lucknow University (M.Sc Chemistry) and a lecturer in Raza Degree College, Rampur and having Saraswati gift as he was well versed and told us stories as an elegant orator for Mahabharata, Ramayana and Paraná. I remember I was 14 when he recited the Abhimanyu story as Abhimanyu himself how he fought and challenged the Kauravas (I had goosebumps all over my skin) I now feel that stint of keeping mind body and heart and Concentrate for a challenging work (Ekagrata) has become part of my life as I still see his large eyes concentrated on me and my brother telling me that you have to encompass challenges without fear and have passion and sincerity towards Good deeds to be accomplished in your lifetime like Abhimanyu.

Later He was one of the top Faculty in Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and above all My GURU.

He had a great ego and straightforwardness as he came to Delhi by giving all his property to elder brother and had Rs. 100 in his pocket and the then Principal of DCE invited him to be a part of the Institute (He bargained the best salary in the interview).

My other learning from him was straightforwardness (always spoke truth) but you know a person now can not survive with ego for traits of straightforwardness.

I remember when in bed in his last days I was Deputy Dean, Students Welfare in Delhi University at the age of 31 years; he got a single bed in All India Institute of Medical Sciences I lay on floor for sleeping due to paucity of bed in night he got up and asked me to sleep with him and I saw him weeping the first time ever as he told that forgive me that I was harsh and angry on you when you were careless in your studies or otherwise as I wanted to make you self sustainable in future. I told him We learnt the best from him, and he should have no grudge and feeling or any kind of repentance, as he has put us in right directions for our future.

My mother (87) is still with me, she was also a PGT School Teacher in a Blind School, and I am still a child (66) for her.

So I feel experiential learning is not only by education in schools and colleges but your parents are your GURU. It is our good rites (Sanskar) from parents and elders, attitude actions and behaviour with others and zeal and enthusiasm with mind, body heart as one and being passionate for future sustainability turning us to be a good human being.
