My Story
Jose Caballer
Coach, Design Catalyst. I help creative leaders unlock and harness their superpowers.
For the last eight years, I've been on an explorative journey I call “The Experiment."
I was born in 1973 to a Puerto Rican pastor and a Dominican biologist. We moved frequently between the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and California. As the eldest of three boys, I often immersed myself in creative pursuits like drawing and building models.
At 12, after my mother's passing, my father moved us to California for his job in public health. I spent years caring for my brothers until I was sent to boarding school in the Dominican Republic by my grandmother, Porfiria Perez Acosta. She was a formidable matriarch, she was an educator, an entrepreneur, and founder of the first Seventh-Day Adventist Academy in the Dominican Republic. She ran various businesses and was a cornerstone of her community. Her father, my great grandfather was a black man. A land owner, plantation boss, and a dandy.??
Why am I telling you this?
My story, my "Hero's Journey," has many hints as to what makes me who I am, my creative gifts, and the wounds?of my ancestry.? This is also an important assignment in my coaching program. It might?resonate with you if you are from immigrant parents, from a colonized nation, a woman, maybe a little queer (aren't we all), or just a rebel creative grappling with feelings of inadequacy and the pressure to conform to societal norms.
Sometime in 2016, my friend Chris Do Chris Do suggested I embrace the role of the "spiritual guy" in our content, a notion I initially resisted. Driven by a need to be “authentic,” I embarked on a journey to genuinely “become that person.”
So back to the beginning. I’ve traveled the world and the seven seas looking for something. From mosques in Cairo, ashrams in India, yoga training in Costa Rica, the birth of crypto in Brooklyn, the sands of Black Rock City,?London, Paris, Berlin, Bucharest, Dubai, LATAM, across Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Panama. And...
What have I learned?
Well, here are a few of the key “takeaways” from my journey, from “The Experiment”: ?
1. Together is Better. Always.
As a creative (as a person), I have the tendency to isolate and go at it alone. No bueno. Doing it together in a community is always best. Hands down. What is that experience like, you might ask… Well, let me show you.
Click here to join me this Friday at 11 am PST / 2 pm EST for “The Drop-in.” Come experience the power of community.
"This session reminded me of the importance of community. Hearing everyone's stories and vulnerabilities creates a strong, supportive environment. It’s reassuring to know we’re not alone in our challenges. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement." - Dan

2. ADHD, Anxiety, and Procrastination are all Trauma responses!
Regulating my nervous system is hard. The world is crazy, social media is crazy, work, family, friends, elections, the creative job market, a million gurus online… you name it, it’s all too much for me.?One of the things that I found works wonders for me to regulate my nervous system, release trauma, and help my productivity is Breathwork. I recently took my friend, fellow Art Center Alum, and Breathwork master teacher Rubina Chadha’s Breathwork course, and it was transformational.
Click here to join me this Saturday, July 13th at 11 am PST / 2 pm EST for her “Creative Reset Breathwork”?free workshop.
I'll share how Breathwork has profoundly transformed my life and why it's crucial for our creative journeys. DON'T Miss this opportunity.? ?
3. Don’t Do it Alone—Ask for Help!
I am so proud and stubborn that it took me a long time to recognize the value of seeking help. Three months ago, I surrendered and took the plunge. I’m so thankful to now have a coach, and the results have been remarkable.?(Yes, even coaches have coaches.)
For example, after 30 years of coaching companies and creative teams worldwide through programs like CORE Discovery, I’ve finally embraced offering one-on-one coaching. It took me long enough!
How is it going? OMG, it’s so amazing. I love working one-on-one with you. My Free Discovery calls have been so powerful. Out of 5 spots, I now only have 3 left! So, I’m currently looking to fill the last 3 coaching spots available!
I am looking for some rebel creatives eager to co-create the next phase of their journey and work alongside me. If you find yourself wondering, “How do I unlock a bigger, more powerful version of myself?” and you're ready to engage with a coach and a proven framework that has helped thousands of creatives and entrepreneurs build successful careers, companies, and lives, then it’s time to “Do it!”

Much love,
