My story on hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro

Embarking on an adventure of a lifetime, I had the incredible opportunity to hike the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro alongside 16 of my colleagues, friends, and even 2 of my brothers. The anticipation was palpable as we gathered our gear, laced up our boots, and prepared ourselves for a challenge like no other. Little did we know that the experience awaiting us would be filled with unforgettable laughter, moments of agony, and an unstoppable spirit that would carry us to the summit. Join me as I take you through the highs and lows of this thrilling expedition!
When you decide to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro, you're not just signing up for a strenuous physical feat; you're also taking on a formidable mental challenge. The long hours of walking, the thinning air, and the daunting altitude tests your determination, resilience, and ability to silence that little voice inside your head screaming, "Why are we doing this again?" It's like a battle of wits against your own mind!
Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
It was pouring rain our entire drive to the start of the hike and the forecast did not look good it showed rain and snow for the entirety of the hike. Right before we started the clouds parted and it was a beautiful day with the sun shinning right before we started.
As we set foot on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, excitement and
nervousness mingled in the air. The first day's hike through the rainforest was
filled with lush greenery, exotic wildlife, and a sense of camaraderie amongst
our group. Laughter echoed through the trees as we shared stories and
encouraged one another, blissfully unaware of the challenges that lay ahead.
At first, the hike seemed easier than anticipated, and I couldn't help but wonder if the hype was overrated. The locals would repeatedly remind us with their mantra, "Pole, Pole" meaning "slowly, slowly." However, my impatience led me to chant "Haraka, Haraka" or "fast, fast," much to their amusement. Little did I know, their wisdom would prove invaluable in the days to come. Although I thought the hiking was not too bad the cold conditions and camping was a challenge for me. As soon as the sun went down a freeze came on that would not disappear until the sun came up.

Chapter 2: Life above the clouds
Days 3 and 4 of hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro bring a unique and breathtaking experience as you ascend above the clouds and continue acclimatizing to the high altitude. These days offer a mix of awe-inspiring scenery, physical challenges, and an opportunity to adapt to the thinning air.
As you ascend, you may notice the clouds drifting beneath your feet, creating a surreal and magical atmosphere. The sight of the sun piercing through the clouds, casting golden hues on the surrounding peaks, is an unforgettable sight that will etch itself into your memory.
The terrain on day 3 and 4 can be challenging, with steep uphill
sections and uneven paths. It's important to maintain a slow and steady pace,
allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude. Take breaks to catch
your breath, sip water, and savor the panoramic views that unfold with every
step. We were half way there and I was ready to tackle the 2nd half of the journey!
I will finish up the story on my next post! Stay tuned and please comment?
