As a child, I was always an introvert with a very low level of confidence. Moreover, I was not good at studies or any sport. Yes, I was creative and definitely not dumb, it was just that I somehow knew that formal education was not going to help me achieve my dreams and thus it made me an average student. Trust me, it was not as easy as it sounds. Being a daydreamer and always waiting to grow up, I took life way too seriously. By the time when all my friends were going to school I started doing fashion shows as a model. The main reason for that was, I wanted to improve my personality and increase my confidence level.
A few limiting beliefs I got rid of during that phase were -
- I could present myself to be confident even when I wasn’t feeling confident within
- I loved talking to people even when I was an introvert
- I used to believe that walking on that ramp would increase my confidence but it was the backend coordination and communication that helped me boost my morale and confidence, more than the on stage appearance
- No matter how practically we take decisions about our life and future, our heart always knows the right path
It was after a few shows, I decided to go for a professional course in Event Management from NIEM, PUNE. I had no guidance or support for this field and that was the reason it took me 2 years to convince my mom that I am choosing the right field of my interest. For that I did a few shows as a coordinator in my hometown Dehradun itself and simultaneously I did Diploma in Web Designing. Pune, changed a lot in me, both personally and professionally. I was not only confident but I got a new personality all together. I learnt so much about my strengths and weaknesses, I got to improve myself every single day. Starting from picking up the waste from the venue to managing the team of 100s. I learnt everything required to execute a perfect event.
Some of the events I actively participated as an organiser were-
- Social Events - Janta Raja, Eye Donation Camps, Blood Donation Camp, Swach Bharat Abhiyan drives, Sessions on Child Sexual Abuse
- Sports Events - ODI (IND Vs AUS 2013), T20 (IND Vs ENG 2012), Cricket Tornaments
- Personal Events - Royal Weddings, Birthdays, Baby Showers
- Promotional Events - Automobile Brand Activations, Apparel Brand Promotions, Roadies Auditions, Mall Activations & Promotions, Road Shows
- Movie Promotions - Ram Leela, Yaariyaan, Shaukeens, R Rajpumar, Jal and many more
- Corporate Events - Annual Events, Award Functions, Outings
After doing so many of the events during my internship and volunteering period, I made up my mind that I only wanted to do freelance events. So little did I know that so early in my career I was looking for the freedom to work at my convenience, that my experience could not afford. I understand this now but at that time, when I got the opportunity to work as a Marketing Executive in Seasons Mall Pune, I was reluctant about it. I took up the job thinking that I would leave anytime if I had to get out of my comfort zone. Imagine what just happened, I never realised how around one and half to two years passed by. I learnt a new angle of events there. It was all about brand promotions, collaborations, communication, footfall, eyeballs, activations, activations and many many many events. I had a lifetime of experience there that I can not even write it down here. I could not have learnt all that in any of the top B School as well. This was all because of my General Manager at that time Mr Ajay Malhotra, who showed trust in me and my skills. He gave me all the space to understand my strengths to the best and it is only because of him I understood the difference between a leader and a boss.
A few skills that I developed during that phase were -
- Clients handling
- Interdepartmental Coordination - I have to tell you it's not as easy as it sounds. You don't get cooperative colleagues all the time
- Vendor Management
- Brand Promotions
- Strategic Marketing
- Presentation Skills
- Visual Management
- Managerial Skills
- Public Relations
Later, the journey went on with several other organisations like Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon, Confederation of Indian Industry, Petroleum University, JB Institute of Technology, Graphic Era University, Times Square Mall, Uprist Service Portal Private Limited and many more.
In 2016, I registered a proprietorship firm by the name Leading Edge India and did a lot of events for different brands in and around Dehradun.
3 things that I was actively involved into simultaneously were:
- Mentoring the business plans of students from various E-cells,
- Helping brands to generate more revenue and
- Toastmasters International, being a VP PR for a session as well.
The phase for me was dynamic as I was doing a lot of things together and learning so much about every field, be it Entrepreneurship, Hospitality, Medical, Education, Retail or Entertainment.
I have also been taking care of my family restaurant business and meanwhile in September 2017, I along with my 3 cousins came up with an idea of making a record of covering 15 treks in 20 consecutive days. It has been accounted for in India Book of Records. This journey of completing 15 treks in 20 days did not only boosted my morale but also gave me a sense of achievement. This was the time when I set myself free of another limiting belief. I always thought that I was the lazy one and could not do something physically so challenging.
Things went on taking a different turn all together when I made another life changing decision of coming to Goa as a Team Member of Mr Rahul Bhatnagar. As a team we generated the revenue of more than 4 crores in just 2 years and did 2 very successful events Enrichment Begins within 2019, Goa and Sales and Leadership Masterclass, Delhi.
Areas of excellence by this time I have are as follows -
- Leadership
- Sales Trainer
- Closing over calls
- Communication
- Events Planning and Execution
- Public Speaking
- Marketing & Sales Strategies
- Mentoring Individuals with Professional & Personal Growth
After completing 10 years of my journey, I have learnt a very important thing about myself and that is that I am a Visionary and my vision is to empower more and more people and help them achieve their vision. The journey is long and determination is strong. If you feel that my story or my vision can help you achieve yours, drop me a mail at [email protected]
