My Socks Have a Social Life

My Socks Have a Social Life

My daughter is a shoe girl. My mother was also a shoe girl. It skipped a generation with me. I always get the shoes wrong.

I am, however, a sock girl. Socks are second only to pyjamas in my mind. I wear socks all day long, and whenever I am forced to put on a pair of shoes, a mild panic sets in. Do they match? Are they correct for the weather? Are my toes acceptable (my toes are never acceptable)? Will my feet die while wearing them? I will almost always get the shoes wrong for the outfit. Etc etc. This is something my daughter is absolutely appalled by, and my mother is probably spinning in her grave over it.

The shoe thing is, of course, one of a million reasons why I love working from home. No one is expecting me to have shoes on. There are no hazards in my workplace that require me to wear shoes - I am past the years where there might be Lego, or a particularly firm Barbie accessory on the floor for me to step on. Socks are more than adequate.

The socks thing has become such an important part of my life that I do not have a sock drawer. I have THREE sock drawers. One is for sports/working out. Two is for normal wear, either going out, or for boots, regular shoes and so on. Three is the novelty socks. Obviously three is my favourite. Over the years, I have either collected myself or been given a vast variety of novelty socks. I have Queen Elizabeth socks, Mr DressUp, CATS, Parliament Hill, Justin Trudeau, more CATS, true crime, Wilfrid Laurier University, yoga, Andrea, curling, CATS, Harry Potter, Christmas, an entire advent calendar of socks. And more. I wish I could take a picture of them, but I can't because most of them are packed up for the moment because we are renovating. I'm positive they come alive at night. Two is gossiping about the antics of Three. Three is out getting lost and mismatched. One is lamenting about the state of my workout schedule.

What's the point of all this raving about my sock collection? It's really about working from home. For me, working from home and building a business has been a gift that keeps on giving. Forever. It's not just about money. It's about freedom. Financial freedom yes, but also freedom from shoes!!

I invite you to take a look at my landing page and website for my two home businesses. The links are below. I'm having a great time with this and would like to bring you along if you want it. Have a wonderful day and love to all!
