My Sister’s in ICU and I Feel Calm; 3 Things You Can Do to Achieve Your Own Call in Your Career

My Sister’s in ICU and I Feel Calm; 3 Things You Can Do to Achieve Your Own Call in Your Career

At the writing of this blog my younger sister is in ICU, completely sedated, on a breathing tube after complications during surgery.

We do not know what the future holds.

I saw myself thinking about who I was going to be during this critical moment.

I knew that I had to lean into my spiritual tools as a guide.

The first thing I did was to get still. I opened up my mind and I had the thought, “Intention, Attention, No Tension”.

In some ways it makes sense that this would come to mind. Earlier that morning I had held a Vision Board session for the Career Alchemists inside Career Alchemy Academy. {Learn More} ?

One of the concepts I taught was something I learned from Janet Attwood during my Passion Test certification.

When you are going after a big career dream, you need to do only 3 things …

  1. Set your Intention.
  2. Decide where you will put your Attention.
  3. Create No Tension. Release attachment to the outcomes and the how.

Though I was not going after a big career dream at this moment, I knew this was exactly the message I needed to hear.

I asked myself, what is my intention during this time? I knew that my intention was to remain calm, centered, helpful and hopeful for the best possible outcome.

Where did I want to put my Attention? I wanted to put my attention on my sister, her husband, her kids and my mom and dad. What did they need right now? How could I be of service to them? ?

How could I create No Tension? I was not sure exactly how I would do this. Would I meditate in the mornings? Did I need to journal more? All good ideas but nothing felt exactly like “it”. I decided to use another spiritual tool. I drew a Celestial Wisdom Card from my deck. I asked how I could best have No Tension during this time, and I pulled the card Fulfillment.

I immediately knew why the message was being given.

One of my favorite bible quotes that I learned from listening to Joel Osteen since I have never read the bible or attended much church, is from Exodus 23:26, and it says, “The number of your days God will fulfill.”

For me this has always meant there is no need to worry. ?The number of our days will be fulfilled exactly as they are meant to be fulfilled.

Whatever was meant to happen during this time regarding my sister, her days would be fulfilled. I could rest in this knowledge. I felt NO TENSION.

THE POINT: When you are in a crisis, worried about when you will find that job, wondering ?how to find a better work/life balance, how to advance your career more quickly or are wondering how you are going to pay your bills remember to lean into the spiritual tools and know that they will give you exactly what you need. And …

Set an intention, decide where to put your attention, and then have no tension.

All is being fulfilled.

Stay inspiHER’d,

~ Laurie

P.S. UPDATE: It has been 6 days since I wrote this. 7 days since my sister has been in ICU. She has made great progress since surgery. She is awake, able to breathe on her own, eat, walk a bit, get in and out of bed and we just heard they are releasing her today!

There is a journey ahead, and I know exactly what to do … I intend to attend to her without tension, in all the ways she needs and asks of me.

Laurie Swanson I’m glad your sister is recovering. That can be so scary and I commend you for keeping your cool. I really like how you set yourself up for where your attention was going to go, setting your intention and creating no tension. Very wise advice and good actions to employ when in a high stress situation. Thank you for sharing.
