My Secret Plan to Rule 2020 

A few weeks ago I found myself reflecting what my Word for the year would be: one that will direct and guide my thoughts, decisions, and actions for the year ahead. Taking inspiration from many wise and well-known thought leaders (eg. Oprah), having a Word for the year is not a new phenomenon. But there's merit in the fact that these deeply reflective and successful leaders select their Word for the year with such conviction and renewed vigour each year. 

I’ve experienced a growth-filled past 12 months in my business and personal life. There have been highs and lows. During the highs, I felt energised and unstoppable. During the lows, I felt lethargic and allowed my self-doubt to hold me back from taking positive action. So I wonder, what the benefit may be for me if I were to choose a Word for myself in 2020? Could it help to keep me more balanced and focused on achieving my goals? Could it help me spring into action with renewed purpose and energy? Could it take my attention off of the limiting thoughts and beliefs that I had previously allowed to hold me back? Could it help me be a better wife, parent, sister, friend, leader? Could it help me get more done? 

And so this is my word for 2020: DELIVER. 

The commitment I have made to myself is to take stock of the lessons learned in 2019; set even clearer goals for myself/marriage/family/health/business in 2020 - and to enthusiastically approach these with the unstoppable belief that I will DELIVER on what I have promised to or expect of myself this year. And along the way, it will serve as a reminder to initiate ongoing self-accountability, rather than react to the prompts of external events or opinions.
