My secret formula for creating community questions that spark connection

My secret formula for creating community questions that spark connection

If you want to build a successful community, you’ve got to create opportunities for people to engage and connect so they can build relationships.

Daily polls and questions work well to spark relationships between members because they bring people back to your community repeatedly. (Especially when Mighty Networks notifies them every time there’s a new answer)

The Formula for Great Community Questions

Here’s my formula for great community questions: Unlocking Phrase + Topic

Unlocking phrases are short conversation starters that are easy for members to answer, such as “what’s your favorite…” or “would you rather…” Then, choose a relevant topic.

Here are some examples of great community questions:

  • What's the first app you launch on your phone every day??
  • What's one amazing feat you want to achieve in the next five years??
  • What is your favorite daily practice you can't live without?

Inside Mighty Networks , we’ve created the infinite question engine, which takes the Big Purpose of your community and generates unlocking phrases plus your unique topic to create community questions for you.

The Power of Daily Polls

Daily polls start conversations between members every day, which is a powerful force to build a thriving community. We have three types of polls inside Mighty: multiple-choice, hot or cold, and percentage.

Polls are great because people can answer them quickly and see how other community members answer.?

Bring It All Together

Now, let’s bring together all six pieces—your Big Purpose, best year ever, ideal members, monthly themes, weekly calendar, and daily polls and questions. When you bring all these elements together in a community design plan, you have a community that can run itself—even when life gets in the way.

You can also use these prompts to brainstorm some ideas for polls and questions:

  • Create a week of diverse poll questions (multiple-choice, hot/cold, and percentage). Explain how each poll relates to your members' best year ever.
  • Develop a set of 5 'Would you rather' questions specifically tailored to spark discussions among members in the community. Explain the rationale behind each question.
  • Develop 5 'If you could...' questions encouraging your members to think creatively about their goals or challenges in your industry/niche.

I love Mighty Networks and remember that polls are a great way to engage people. I remember taking some of the trainings you all have around polls and creating community, and they’re a great way to think outside the box ??
