My second children's book "Kimiya says No" is finally published!

"Sometimes, the plans in your heart aren't God's plan”.?“Kimiya says No!”, my second children's book is not available on Amazon (sorry Prime Members) but on?Barnes & Noble?(Hardcover, Paperback, and Nook), and?Lulu.com?(Hardcover, Paperback, and Ebook).?

I thought the publishing process would be easier the second time, but it was not. "Kimiya says No" was scheduled to be published in July 2022: my daughter had just turned 3 and she was still the annoying little girl I depict in the book, but then life happened (covid, back to school, work, teaching, birthdays, holidays and Amazon KDP closing my account in January 2023 for no reason!).

The story is about the terrible twos, the so-called normal developmental stage marked by children's defiant behaviors when they grow a burgeoning desire for independence. Basically, Kimiya drives her dad and me crazy during our morning routine. The story is lighter and more humorous than the first book: Mawuena's Health and Wellness Tips.

Writing "Kimiya?says No" was definitely cathartic as I could lay on paper all the emotions and frustrations we feel sometimes as parents.

I would like to thank the illustrator Sona Buhar, based in Sri Lanka who collaborated with me on the first and second books during a political crisis in his country. We again went through electricity shortages preventing us from connecting for days and weeks. Sona also had to go through multiple revisions to align with my vision as I wanted Kimiya to be represented as she is, a stubborn little girl, with braided hair, expressive eyes, and an innocent smile.

This book is for all parents (current, aspiring, and future) and caregivers who want to make the world a better place and reduce racial divides. I believe that it is important to show and share images of black kids/girls doing mundane activities as any human being. I believe in "re-humanizing" individuals?who have gone through centuries of dehumanization, I believe in building proximity through stories, I believe in controlling our narratives, and I believe that representation matters.

“Kimiya says No!” is not available on Amazon?but on?Barnes & Noble?(Hardcover, Paperback, and Nook), and?Lulu.com?(Hardcover, Paperback, and Ebook).

"Mawuena's health and wellness tips" is still available on Barnes & Nobles, (Hardcover, Paperback, and Nook), and Lulu.com (Hardcover, Paperback, and Ebook).

Thank you,

Kimiya = name in Swahili from Congo DRC, meaning "Peace, Tranquility". It also means "Precious, Rare, and Unique, Originating from Alchemy" in Persian and Iranian.
