My Second Book: Big Data Management in Private and Public Sectors

My Second Book: Big Data Management in Private and Public Sectors

This is my 30th post on LinkedIn. It coincided with the publication of my second book “Big Data Management in Private and Public Sectors”, short after my first book (Data science: Concepts and Skills). It is the first big data applications book in Persian. It talks about Healthcare, Education, Manufacturing, Retail, Public Sector, Social Sciences and Sports.

Each chapter of the book is dedicated to one of the applications: the main problems and opportunities of the industry are explained, the new data sources are mentioned and finally big data analytics comes in to solve the problems and introduce new opportunities.

Big data analytics changed the way we look at customers including patients, students, product consumers, citizens, people and athletes (corresponding to the list of industries). The idea of customization and tailoring revolutionized the meaning of a customer, hence provided new products and services based on the new thinking paradigm. In other words, we moved from the idea of a typical or average customer to the new customer, considering all the nuances in its demographics, characteristics, habits and interests.

However, big data analytics is not a free lunch. It comes in with challenges including cultural challenges (such as resistance to change and reluctance to data democratization), technical challenges (including data integration and infrastructure) and social challenges (the scarcity of analytic talent and the difficulty in retaining experts).

I believe there are structural similarities in big data analytics applications in different industries, so studying the book can work as a warm-up for brainstorming and improvement, even in unlisted industries. I hope the book can light up new perspectives in the minds of the readers and bring in new ideas for change.

The book is available for sale on the publisher’s website and Iran Book House . Readers of the book can write a review here on Goodreads.
