My Saturday Volunteering Experience

What I learned with volunteering is you make a difference.
Last Saturday, I helped in the pantry section.
What it means is donating food to families.
Families with children.
Families who don't have children.
People who live alone.
To show compassion during a time of charitable giving, remembrance, and sacrifice.
It takes a high level of patience.
Also excellent customer service skills.
And interact with families and children;?
Many have stood in line for up to 5 hours waiting to receive gifts.
On a rainy Saturday morning, I signed in.
Received a poncho, a traffic vest, and helped pack food.?
We packed mangos, squash, zucchini.?
Six to eight mangos in a bag.
And to double tie the bags so that the food doesn't fall out.
Overheard a volunteer who said:
"Zucchini, cucumber's cousin."
No lies detected.
When we received the zucchini, the older women checked for damages.
Always good to learn from people how they check.
You wouldn't want to send bad food to families, would you?
I was in the middle, receiving the good zucchini to pass to the younger women.
Also carried 40-pound boxes of sweet potatoes to set on the table.
There were few men, so I had to make things easier.
When we were at our stations to give, here come the families.?
There were children who said "Hello" and said, "Thank you."
Mothers who love mangos.
I had a blast giving bags of fruits and vegetables to families.
It was around 5 hours.
You learn to make a difference.
In the end, I received a box from the head of the committee for the work done.
Being a present to the people is why volunteering takes a giving heart.
What is one thing you learned from volunteering?

3 年The thing I have learned from volunteering is that it creates positive ripples that keep on going in some ways you get to see and other times you don’t get the opportunity to see them. Volunteering with Dress for Success Austin and I receive that e-mail note of appreciation for my time helping her with a mock interview & revising her resume. Good news she got the apprenticeship. ?????????????????? Thanks Craig for sharing your volunteering experience with us.
