My saga of COVID-19 Journey
Anil Sahu, PGD-TMA
Regional Product Development Manager (RPDM)@JH,CG&OD at HM.CLAUSE
Dear all my esteemed friends,
I am Alive now after battling with COVID-19 since May 03 evening. I have been discharged from hospital on May 25. This is really my re-birth on this planet and many many thanks to almighty GOD.
Actually I came to my remote native village in Madhubani district (Bihar) from Ranchi (Jharkhand) to stand by in times of sorrow and moral support to my sister and my parent due to unprecedented death of my young aged brother-in-law due to COVID like symptoms at New Delhi in mid April. He left us with his four little daughters.
I felt little gastric with fever and mild cough on May 03 evening and from that time only started taking medicine keeping in mind of possibility of COVID. I had fever ranges from 100-101 degree F which were not able to control even after taking medicine flashed on various social networks along with consultation with my close doctor friends for COVID. In the mean time I have also consulted local doctor physically and suggested for blood testing and result declared Typhoid and then started medicine of Typhoid but even though not able to control my fever and mild cough.
On May 07 went to Darbhanga (Bihar) for consultation with good doctor and he suggested for blood test, urine test and COVID test. On the same day evening result came COVID positive (N-gene CT value 22.14) and doctor prescribed medicine. I had been taking prescribed medicine/injection properly but breathing problems started where my %SpO2 level was 90-92.
After considering decreasing trend in %SpO2 level, my family members were much worried on May 11 morning. We have also taken guidance of very close familiar doctor but he had also not suggested for admission in hospital due to unavailability of seats in any hospitals nearby districts and be remain at home only.
Even though my family decided to admit in Government COVID Hospital (Primary Health Centre, Rajnagar, Madhubani, Bihar) and admitted on the same day and supplied me oxygen to maintain my %SpO2. There were only crowd and rush for oxygen cylinder by patient’s guardians and there were no any treatment at all. There were no proper doctor’s visits, no proper nurse’s visits. One day my blood sample taken by nurses but no any report given to me. Horribly even my name was recorded differently (came to knew during discharge for another good hospital). My health situation was going very much pathetic, I was not able to do toilet, latrine, tooth-brushing, fooding and even short walking. %SpO2 level was in the range of 86-89 during discharge from government hospital.
Friends, I was feeling proud, confident and much respect to my near close family doctors as well as lot of my others doctor friends and thought they will be taken care of mine and will give proper guidance to me but not worked properly at all. They felt its overburden to get involve from start to final medical treatment. No bother at all and left over us to decide fate of my life.
Later on, my younger brother (Mr. Sunil Sahu), my wife (Mrs. Kanchan) and my father contacted with one of wife’s relative Dr. Suraj (working in PMCH, Patna). Due to Dr. Suraj good networks, he found seat available in private hospital (Shayama Surgical Sansthan, Darbhanga). I got admitted there on May 14 and immediately proper treatment started with very fast pace. Dr. Suraj was regularly following-up my health condition and he was also regular touch with treating doctor. One of my classmates Mr. Ashutosh also sent his doctor friend to meet me physically to enquire health status with taking notes of procedure of treatment that was going on.
My health condition was improving drastically from May 20 and maintained %SpO2 level 89-90. Followed by %SpO2 level 94 on May 22 then %SpO2 level 94-95 (prone position reached to 96) on May 24. Treating doctor recommended for discharge on May 25 with 5 days few medicines and 30 days other few medicines.
Friends, I was crying and weeping on hospital bed for a while but keeping calm myself and saying every time “GOD, ALL IS WELL”. I was not using phone at all and if get connected to some of my dear one, I was too much emotion with crying talk. I was regularly looking screen of Pulse Oximeter/PB/PR machine installed close to my bed and thinking when it will cross my %SpO2 level 95.
Friends, my wife and my brother never ever kept me away due to COVID patient. Both were meet me regularly with proper safety measure. My wife prepared good food all the time and she fed me like child. My brother was responsible for arranging all items, talking to doctors/nurses and hospital/patient day care management.
Therefore, I would like to heartfelt thanks and lifetime blessings to my wife and my brother for saving my life. Without them I can’t expect my life again. Both of them done relentless efforts, help and support throughout my days at hospital.
I would like to thanks to my parents and all my relatives who were praying to GOD for fast recovery. My father-in-law arranged online video Puja/Aarti from Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga Temple (Deoghar, Jharkhand) and my mother-in-law done “Shiv Guru Pujan” at Guwahati for fast recovery. My parents sent “Home God” threads which were tied on my arms for safeguard all the time.
I would like to thanks a lot to Dr. Suraj for his kind help and continuously following-up from start of symptoms to final medical treatment. He was also under very hectic COVID duty at PMCH, Patna but he spent time to follow-up me and regular guiding to me and my brother for further course of action. Humanity still exists in such kind of person.
I would like to thanks to treating doctors, nurses and all staffs member of hospital Shyama Surgical Sansthan, Darbhanga (Bihar) for giving proper treatment and saved me.
I would like to thanks for my current organization Indam Family (Indo-American Hybrid Seeds India Pvt. Ltd.) members specially our honorable CMD Sir, PMU head, R&D Head, HR, Breeders, Account Manager, Sales & Marketing officials and all my PMU staffs called me and wished me for fast recovery and supported me all the time. Mistakes done:
1. Blind trust/believe on someone and thought he is mine and will take care of me from start to end of medical treatment and will give proper guidance but it has not worked properly.
2. Admission in Government Hospital was blunder mistake.
3. Treatment at home after getting COVID +ve with breathing problem was one of the big mistakes.
4. Lack of right decision at right time.
5. Not able to understand people who can really my well wisher and helping hand who can support me, guide me and follow-up me.
Learning lesions and action points done:
1. Must need to get admission in very good hospital at right time of disease severity level where proper treatment can be done (may get enquiry from reliable person from medical fields for hospital status or May have some good reference).
2. No need to panic on availability of seats in Hospital. News media and networking people has been created chaos among people. Just need to have good reliable person from medical field who can search/find seats in good hospital.
3. Very good food along with nutrient supplements needed during hospitalization.
4. Patient Care Taker: Passionately and knowledgeable patient care taker required who can involve in all day care management of patient as well as hospital related affairs.
5. Must need to schedule breathing therapy/Yoga as per body capability in the morning and evening.
6. Sleeping for sometime in prone position caused increase in %SpO2 level.
7. Walking for at least 100-300 steps in the morning and evening at hospital. But after discharge, need to walk at least 30 minutes in each at morning and evening.
8. Understand people or identify person who are really genuine to help, support and guide at any time during medical treatment duration.
