My rural life!

New life brings a great smile to my face!

A few years ago, my wife and I made a series of hard family decisions. With aging parents dealing with health issues, we determined that we needed to move closer. Closer to them and closer to our future.

It was a hard decision, for me. I had been blessed with a great career in IT, a wonderful staff, great leadership team and a fabulous support structure. I worked with so many wonderful people across the country. My volunteer work, presence at conferences and speaking engagements was busy, but also tiring. Little did I know how tired I was, not to mention how disconnected I had become from my family. Through tough conversations, the decision to leave was made for me.

We sold our home, packed up our belongings, moved our family and we restarted our life nearly 1,500 mi away but closer to our extended families. That move while difficult, at first, has become a fruitful endeavor.

I work for a reputable CPA firm with a regional presence. In addition, my wife and I have built a personal business that is fun to watch, grow and share with others. We researched, purchased and expanded our livestock to include: Registered Belted Galloway cattle (often referred to as Oreos), Heritage pigs and chickens. We raise these animals, along with fresh fruits and produce for our family and many other families. We wake up excited for the opportunities that come to our doorstep.

Our community is overflowing with compassion, excitement, friendships, and fascinating conversations. Every day, I am more thankful than the previous day. Yes, that sounds too hard to believe, but when you live it, it’s not too hard to see it. I can’t believe how much better my days are and how engaging my relationships have become. If I thought I was blessed before, I know now what blessings are. Thank you to all my friends and family, my acquaintances across the country, and to the countless people I interact with on a daily basis. You make a difference and hopefully I have made a difference for you.

I am a farmer, once again…
