My Role as Chief Product Developer at CY:ONS

My Role as Chief Product Developer at CY:ONS

When I stepped into CY:ONS , I knew we had the potential to disrupt the cycling industry in a way that hadn’t been done before. My job as Chief Product Developer is straightforward on the surface—take bold ideas and turn them into reality, and to design solutions that don’t just meet today’s needs, but also anticipate tomorrow’s demands. It’s about making cycling more accessible, more engaging, and more aligned with where the world is heading.

The "Why" Behind Our Work

There’s a lot of work that goes into what we do at CY:ONS, but understanding why we do it is what drives me. For me, the reason is simple: cycling has the potential to change the way we live; it’s freedom, health, connection to the environment, and, for many, a lifestyle. Improving that experience is something I feel deeply passionate about.

So, why do we work? Because cycling has the power to solve real-world issues—urban congestion, sustainability challenges, even personal wellbeing. Every day, I wake up knowing that the work we do has the potential to make a tangible difference, not just for cyclists, but for society as a whole.

Why We Aim for Success

Success at CY:ONS isn’t measured in numbers or sales alone. For us, success means making a real impact. The world doesn’t need another bike company just to add to the clutter. Our mission is about creating something meaningful—products that people will remember, that will genuinely improve their daily lives.

Why do we want to achieve success? Because achieving success at CY:ONS means proving that innovation in cycling can drive change. It’s not just about being the best at what we do—it’s about showing the world that bikes can be part of the solution to bigger problems. Climate change, urban congestion, sustainability—these are global challenges, and if we can play even a small part in addressing them, that’s success to me.

Why We Improve the Cycling Experience

For me, the ultimate “why” is the rider. I think about the person riding through the city, or out in the countryside, or commuting to work, and I ask, “Why do we want to improve the cycling experience?”. Because when you make the ride better, you make lives better. It’s as simple as that. If someone’s commute becomes more enjoyable because of something we developed, if they feel safer cycling through the city, or if they’re inspired to ride more often—that’s why we do what we do. That’s the ultimate reward.

Collaborating to Push Forward

One of the greatest strengths of CY:ONS is our collaborative mindset. Every product we bring to life is the result of countless conversations, brainstorming sessions, and input from our team and partners. We don’t work in silos. Engineers, designers, and industry partners all play a critical role in refining and shaping what we create. The question that always drives us forward is, How can we make this even better?

It’s not just internal collaboration, either. Our external partnerships with other brands, institutions, and innovators are critical to what we achieve. It’s not about holding onto our ideas but sharing them and using collective knowledge to push cycling technology further. We want our solutions to improve cycling as a whole, not just for ourselves but for everyone involved in this movement.

Looking to the Future

The future is what motivates me most. We have some groundbreaking projects in the pipeline that are set to redefine what people expect from eBikes and urban cycling. These aren’t just incremental improvements—they’re game changers, the kind of innovations that will make people rethink how they move through cities and engage with cycling.

For me, being Chief Product Developer isn’t just a title—it’s a responsibility. A responsibility to push the boundaries, to never settle for “good enough,” and to always look for ways to improve the rider’s experience. The cycling industry is evolving, and at CY:ONS, we’re leading that evolution.

There’s so much more to come, and I’m proud to be part of this journey. The "why" behind our work keeps us moving forward—because when you know why you're doing something, the path to success becomes much clearer.
