My right hand is getting cut off on Halloween.
My name is Wade and I sell insurance. I work with a wonderful, diligent, well-seasoned Commercial Lines CSR and she is retiring in October. I need someone who would like to help me run my insurance practice.
Why do we do this? This is not a practice life. We spend way too much time at work. Our day at work should be fun as well as challenging. When we are done, we need to feel like we did something important. Last week, one of our customers said "I sleep better now that you are my agent." That's a good reason for me to come to work in the morning. Preserving people's assets is how we make the world better.
We excel because we build really, really tight relationships with the people buying the insurance. We actively look for people and businesses who want to be well insured, and value our services. We focus on coverage and we sell coverage.
What is the Plan? We are building a team. We have a well-developed prospecting/sales system that delivers new customers to us several times a month. Our book of business is growing and we already have a pack, gaggle or herd of good, loyal customers. The plan is to hire one CSR this year, and another one in 2019. We will work as a team and everyone will have input on process and work flow. We do both Commercial Lines and Personal Lines. I would like the first CSR to be stronger at CL, but willing to do PL for a little while. (If you are a Commercial Lines CSR only, and the rest of this sounds interesting, let's talk, maybe we can find a work around.)
What is not part of the job?
- Getting stretched by two or more Producers.
- Giving a customer bad news (That's my job).
- Dealing with an abrasive customer (Also my job).
- When one of us makes a mistake, and we all do, then that is a good time for the whole team to learn. When someone makes a mistake, it is not a time for blaming, defensiveness, "gotcha" or other bad, shouty behavior.
Where do we work? We work at the American Agency, in St. Louis Park. The Agency has been owned by the same family since the 1970's. We have lots of Markets and great, in house, tech support. This is the best place I have ever worked. In our Agency, each CSR works for one Producer, and we have the freedom to set up our team the way that fits best. We have a competitive benefits package that includes life, health, disability, 401K and more.
The perfect candidate:
- Has a sense of humor and likes to make the work day fun, productive and enjoyable. I used to be a contractor, and on some days, my crew and I would hang drywall, which is a crummy job. We decided we would make the day go faster by having fun, even when we were doing a hard, tedious job. If you can make a tedious job fun, I want to work with you.
- Knows how to be happy and have fun at work, or would like to learn.
- Knowledge of AMS is a plus, but if I can learn it, anyone can.
- Must have extensive insurance knowledge, and can read and understand a policy and the coverage that is in it.
- I am not the "detail" person, that would be you.
- Three to five years of industry experience would be good, more is better. Current MN P&C License required.
- Likes to work with other team members to get the work done.
- Can work independently without supervision. I am not a "look over your shoulder" guy.
- High school diploma.

7 年Hey, I just thought I would follow up on this. I posted the article, and lots of nice people shared it for me. We got fifteen qualified applicants, and we interviewed four of them. This week, we hired Ruthi Siegel onto the team. She is working out great so far, likes her new job and has not once threatened to hurt me. I say that is the makings of a great first week.
