My RICS Governing Council Election Statement

My RICS Governing Council Election Statement

We stand at a pivotal moment with an unprecedented opportunity in this RICS Governing Council election to re-invigorate the RICS and transform the organisation for the 21st Century.

My vision for the RICS is a transformed, dynamic, and engaged member-focused organisation, which champions the highest professional standards and empowers the next generation of surveyors.?

To achieve this, we must:?

  1. Reconnect with RICS members – Foster connections among our talented UK, Ireland, and international members both online and in person through regional and professional hubs. Every voice must be heard and valued.?
  2. Promote professionalism – Ensure the RICS Governing Council is accountable and serves as a pillar of the highest standards of professionalism, governance, and ethics within our profession.?
  3. Support the next generation – Facilitate greater social mobility and flexibility in educational pathways through early engagement and mentoring, building a more diverse and inclusive profession.?

I commit to supporting a leaner, more agile, and dynamic RICS ready to face the challenges of the 21st century through:?

  1. Enhanced Communication – Advocate for RICS.org to become an agile global portal for the profession, ensuring it is relevant, easy to use, mobile-friendly, and accessible. This includes driving engagement through professional and regional groups.?
  2. Increased Responsibility – Ensure the RICS Governing Council acts responsibly as a beacon of professionalism and governance. Governance should be clear, transparent, and accountable.?
  3. Greater Accessibility – Improve educational pathways to enable greater social mobility and diversity, opening new career paths and supporting members at different stages throughout their lives.?

The RICS plays a crucial role in setting and maintaining high standards of professional practice. The built environment is a vital part of our wider economic and community development, involving complex projects that require skilled professionals adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards. By strengthening our dedication to ethics and excellence, we can ensure that the RICS leads our sector as a beacon of professional practice.?

My experience as a surveyor in both public and private sectors equips me to deliver these pledges and enhance the effectiveness of the RICS Governing Council. This dual perspective bridges the gap between the RICS’s role as a policy regulator and a membership body, emphasising the need for member-focused governance and providing essential public sector representation.

Teamwork has been the foundation of my professional life. By drawing on the ideas, hopes, and aspirations of RICS members, I will bring about the necessary change. I believe in the RICS’s potential to drive meaningful change across our profession, which is why I am standing for election to the RICS Governing Council.?

If you believe in transforming the RICS into a 21st-century organisation where every voice is valued, which empowers the next generation of surveyors, and champions the highest professional standards, please vote for Paul Broadbent in this election.

Together, we can show our profession, industry, clients, and the public that we care about the future of the RICS.?

Your vote matters.?

Thank you.?
