My Response to Darkness: Tikkun olam, Be the Light!

My Response to Darkness: Tikkun olam, Be the Light!

How was your weekend?

Mine was tinged with joy and sadness.

Joy because it’s spring here in Vermont and absolutely gorgeous. I went for several long walks with my Beau, practiced yoga outside on the grass and connected with friends and neighbors who I love. The highlight was wandering through a field of cairns – stacked rock structures - built by my friend Jacques and talking with him about how creating this landscape is his way of being part of the change he wants to see in the world.

Sadness because the, world, especially America is a mess. The pandemic has exposed and exploded all our societal cracks. People are suffering everywhere. Years of fear, greed and inequality have resulted in a world, which isn’t working.

We are having a Tower moment. The Tower is one of the major arcana cards in the Tarot deck. When it appears in a reading it signals massive, unexpected change, upheaval and chaos. It’s a phoenix flash where things are destroyed so that we can change focus and direction and rebuild from the ashes.

As I read horrible headline after headline, cried, prayed and meditated; I wondered what can I do?

It’s easy to feel small and helpless and remain stuck in fear and uncertainty, but if you stay in that place your energy remains grafted to the problem, not the solution. It can also feel energizing to get angry. Anger is a higher vibe, but it makes things worse not better.

In the words of Martin Luther King Junior:

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.

What can you do to establish a new truth and help rebuild the world? You can change your thoughts, beliefs and actions and be kinder and more loving towards everyone including your self. You can ask for guidance, slow down, listen and notice what shows up for you.

You are more powerful than you realize. As women at midlife we influence up to four generations – grandkids, children, peers and parents. Age is just a number. We can each use or years of wisdom and the years we have left to make a difference.

And if you’re feeling stuck in fear or too low in energy or confidence rest, regroup, and recharge. Then reinvent yourself and rewrite your narrative. With the full moon lunar eclipse on Friday and Venus retrograde happening it is time for reinvention.

You are not alone. As A Course in Miracles puts it:

Truth has rushed to meet you since you called upon it. If you knew Who walks beside you on the path that you have chosen, fear would be impossible.

You are a light worker, we all are. You are made of sunlight. The cells in your body literally come from plants that are fueled by the energy of the sun.

It can feel scary to let your light shine. I know, I’m the psychedelic sheep of my family. For years I stayed in my spiritual closet because I worried what others would think of me if I shared who I truly am, so I hid behind a mask of success and academic achievements.

I can’t hesitate and hide any longer, which is why I’m writing to you, and offer daily inspiration and Reiki healing every Wednesday and Saturday live at 5 pm EST in my private FB page which you can join HERE.

I gained insight from listening to author and psychic Paul Selig. His guides have told him that the only problem humanity faces is that we don’t see divinity in everyone and every thing. If we truly saw that inner spark we would act differently.

There is a Hebrew phrase, Tikkun olam, which means: Repairing or healing the world. Each of us has a role to play in this healing. For some, like Jacques it entails creating a landscape of beauty where people can go to renew their soul. For me it’s about lifting other women up and helping them to see how powerful they are so they can reinvent themselves, make a difference and make their next chapter their best chapter.

In the second half of 2020 how will you shine your light and be part of the change you want to see in the world? What can you do today, this week and this month to make the way lighter for others and allow them to do the same for you?
