I have always been a strong proponent of making a high value purchase, from OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), rather than resellers from Amazon or Flipkart. This time, it was no different. I was looking for a 4K UHD TV for myself. Samsung seemed like an obvious choice. I visited some of the nearby retail stores, and Reliance Digital to see if it could be readily available. I couldn’t find one. Moreover, I noticed a significant price difference between offline and online retailers, in a range of Rs. 6000–8000.
The saleswomen at Reliance Digital, almost convinced me into making a purchase , until and unless I asked her “Why should I make an offline purchase rather than going online?”. She was unable to convince me, which prompted me to look out for an online purchase. Similar models of 4K UHD Smart TVs, were available at discounted rates, at Samsung.com, Flipkart, and Amazon. The only difference is that, when you purchase from Samsung.com, you buy it directly from the manufacturer. When you make a purchase on Amazon or Flipkart, you buy it from a reseller. Post-sale services and warranty issues could be resolved very easily directly by calling the Samsung helpline numbers, which are obviously not managed by chatbots like the ones in Amazon and Flipkart.
